Position Title: Part-time Faculty - Dance (Theatre) Campus: Gorham City, State: Gorham ME Department: Theater - PTHE Bargaining Unit: PATFA Statement of Job:

The Department of Theatre at the University of Southern Maine invites applications for Part-Time Faculty positions in Dance.  Qualified applicants must have the ability to teach technique courses, as well as elective courses, including Composition, Dance in Film, Dance and Health, or other special topics as needed.  The courses will run from January 18, 2022 to May 6, 2022.

Priority need is an instructor to teach the following class in the spring 2022 semester:

DAN 280: Topics in Dance:  Dance in Film (ONLINE Synchronous): M/W 9:30 - 10:45 am

Description: Through critically viewing and discussing movement in silent film, movie musicals, dance featured cinema, reality TV shows and dance choreographed specifically for the camera, students will analyze the social trends throughout dance in film and cultivate a deeper understanding and appreciation of the language of various dance genres. No dance or film experience necessary.

Instructors potentially needed for future courses that may include introductory technique in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, as well as elective courses in Hip Hop, Dance Styles, Dance and Health.

Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior college teaching experience. In addition, USM employees can use their USM Card to access the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center (s). USM also offers part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD) and the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Dance (MFA in Dance preferred) 
  • Teaching experience (at the college level preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience and activity in professional dance
