Western Illinois University seeks an experienced higher education professional to provide leadership, vision, and direction as the Provost and Vice President for the Division of Academic Affairs. The position, which reports to the President, serves as the Chief Academic Officer and a member of the President's Senior Leadership Team. The Provost works closely with the University's senior administrators, and collaborates with University faculty, staff, students, city and state leaders, and community members to uphold and enhance Western Illinois University's academic mission and core values.
The Provost leads the institution's commitment to academic excellence, educational opportunity, personal growth, and social responsibility, and makes recommendations to the President relating to resource allocations to further advance Academic Affairs. The Provost leads the creation and implementation of institutional policy to guide the academic enterprise, including policies related to program development and assessment, and teaching and learning assessment. Working in partnership with campus deans, department chairs, faculty, and all internal stakeholders, the Provost implements academic policies consistently within the context of shared governance and equity.
The Provost provides optimal operational and strategic performance in academics, curriculum, program development, and other areas as assigned by the President to achieve the University's mission and vision. In collaboration with senior leaders, the Provost works to strengthen faculty morale and productivity, along with student success, including student recruitment, retention, graduation, and placement rates. The Provost's Office provides critical University-wide leadership in the advancement of curricular and instructional innovations to enhance student learning and reduce performance gaps at the course, program, college, and campus levels.
The Provost will acquire a comprehensive understanding of the key issues affecting units within this expansive portfolio; shape and implement appropriate strategies, structures, and staffing; and lead the University's academic program management, curriculum development, and faculty promotion and enhancement. The selected candidate will be an effective manager, and will develop leaders, address and manage personnel matters, and contribute to a growing, vibrant, and thriving organizational and institutional culture. The successful candidate will lead and supervise the University's critical academic functions.

The Multicultural Center is home to four cultural and resource centers: The Gwendolyn Brooks, Casa Latina, the Women's Center, and the LGBT*QA Resource Center. These cultural and resource centers promote WIU's goal of enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through educational programming and advocacy.
The University's athletics program, based on the Macomb campus, sponsors 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's and women's varsity sports. Football competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision through the Missouri Valley Football Conference; all other varsity sports compete at the Division I level through The Summit League.
WIU-Macomb, IL (Student Population: 6,539): A traditional, residential four-year campus offering a comprehensive slate of undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education, WIU-Macomb is located in the heart of west central Illinois in Macomb (population 16,000). Amtrak provides twice-daily service from Macomb to Chicago (and points in-between). Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70 miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).
WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 916): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education and a doctorate in environmental studies, at its metropolitan, non-residential campus in Moline, IL.
