The College of Education and Human Development at George Mason University (cehd@gmu.edu) invites applications for a full-time assistant or associate professor in the School Psychology Program, with a Fall 2022 start date. Depending on the applicant’s qualifications and alignment with program needs, the position may be filled through either a teaching-intensive term faculty appointment or through a tenure-track/tenured appointment. George Mason’s School Psychology Program was founded in 1978 and has been NASP-approved since 1992. The program is committed to training future psychologists to work in schools. Our training includes a strong focus on applied experience with multiple practica in schools and clinic settings. We are surrounded by diverse school systems that span urban to rural settings, vary in size, and provide a wide variety of training opportunities. Collaboration, ethical leadership, innovation, research-based practice, and social justice are the core values of our college. The college also offers ample opportunities for cross-collaboration with other faculty in academic programs encompassing the full range of disciplines and professional specializations in education and human development.

Responsibilities:

For all applicants, the position requires teaching graduate courses, supervising graduate students in practica and/or internships, collaborating on course and program development, and contributing to the college’s service mission both internally and through involvement in professional organizations. For those seeking a tenure-track/tenured position, research and scholarship obligations are consistent with expectations for faculty in R1 institutions. Specific teaching responsibilities are flexible and can be aligned with areas of interest and expertise.

Required Qualifications:

  • Required qualifications include an earned doctorate in School Psychology from an NASP and/or APA accredited program.
  • Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability (or show strong potential) to teach graduate-level courses, supervise practica, and mentor graduate students in an NASP-approved specialist-level program.
  • A commitment to preparing professionals to work in school-based settings is a priority.
  • A dedication to serving a diverse student population and providing training in equitable and inclusive practices is essential.
  • Candidates seeking a tenure-track/tenured position must demonstrate a robust record of (or strong potential for) consequential research accomplishments through publication activity and efforts to seek external funding.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications include:

  • current licensure as a psychologist or potential eligibility for licensure by the Virginia Board of Health Professions;
  • experience as a school-based practitioner;
  • and a demonstrated alignment with work cultures that are collaborative, team-based, and service-oriented.
