The School of Human Ecology in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences invites applications and nominations for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of Interior Design.

Within this setting, the multi-disciplinary School of Human Ecology is a dynamic and growth-oriented applied research unit of over 20 faculty and staff. We serve over 750 undergraduate majors enrolled in programs in areas that include Interior Design, Child and Family Development, Fashion Merchandising, and Apparel Design, and Recreation and Tourism Management. The School has a strong undergraduate research program and houses the Child Development Center, an on-campus laboratory school serving 64 children. The Interior Design program is housed in the new Interdisciplinary Academic Building in Statesboro completed in 2018 with state-of-the-art facilities featuring a dedicated 40- seat computer lab, two 24-seat studios equipped with WACOM displays, a VR technology lab, and access to a fabrication lab. This Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and the National Association for Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) accredited program has experienced growth over recent years supporting the need to expand its faculty. The mission of the Interior Design Program at Georgia Southern University is to provide a professional undergraduate education guided by the standards and expectations of the Council for Interior Design Accreditation in order to develop entry-level designers who are able to formulate viable and creative solutions that are evidence-based, human-centered, and relevant to the needs of the individual, family, organization and community. High-impact teaching and learning strategies with an emphasis on wellbeing and sustainability are applied to complex problems through the design process with integrity, openness, diversity and inclusion. The curriculum provides a broad range of interior design experiences to develop aesthetic, communication, collaboration, technology, and design skills in order to prepare graduates for professional interior design jobs within the global community. We prepare our students to work in diverse residential and commercial design fields. The program includes award winning alumni and industry leaders across the United States.
Position Description. Reporting to the School of Human Ecology Chair, the Assistant Professor requires teaching, scholarship, and service responsibilities. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate lecture and studio courses such as Design Studio I (i.e. drafting, rendering, construction documents) and healthcare studio. The position is an academic (10-month) tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Earned Ph.D. preferred or a terminal degree in Interior Design or a closely related field, by August 1, 2022.
NCIDQ certification or completion within two years.
Proficiency to teach AutoCAD, Revit, and Adobe Suite programs.
Ability to teach a range of studio courses.
Ability to teach lecture courses.
Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, curriculum design and development.
Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.
We encourage applicants whose scholarship falls into one of the following areas aligned with emerging departmental and campus priorities: environmental sustainability, health and well-being, and inclusive design.
Desire to work with undergraduate honor s thesis research.
Certifications in addition to NCIDQ such as LEED AP, EDAC, and/or WELL.
Demonstrated performance in innovation through teaching, research and/or practice.
Experience with teaching online.
Engagement with the interior design profession and/or experience with professional practice.
Knowledge of additional interior design-related computer programs including 3DS Max, 20/20, Lumion, virtual reality/augmented reality.
Experience with community engagement initiatives.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
All work for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period of time within current policy.
Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus.
Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses. Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
