Job Description


Cardinal Stritch University is currently seeking a qualified candidate for our Ruth S. Coleman College of Nursing and Health Sciences department. The adjunct faculty member provides part-time instruction and monitors teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair. Other essential functions include: Professionalism; Collegiality; Attendance, punctuality; Confidentiality; and Meeting Travel Requirements. The successful candidate will be an experienced nurse educator and administrator with the ability to build collaborative relationships, with demonstrated competence in teaching and scholarship, curriculum development, program evaluation, and leadership. As application-based learning is a key teaching strategy used in the Department of Nursing, experience with teaching in clinical and laboratory settings, including use of simulation, is preferred. This position may also include the responsibilities of curriculum development, course coordination, and committee work. Adjunct faculty may teach didactic or clinical courses that align with their experience, credentials and based on various program needs.

  • Meets all classes/clinicals according to established schedule
  • Writes, revises and submits syllabi according to specific college requirements
  • Provides appropriate assessment and grades
  • Advises students regarding course selection and program progression
  • Submits grades to registrar in the specified time frames
  • Maintains regular posted office hours per week for advisement with students and be available for students who cannot meet during the assigned times
  • Maintains a scholarly knowledge-base or a particular subject area
  • Hold a minimum of three (3) posted office hours per week for students
  • Utilize high impact teaching strategies that incorporate best practices in nursing education
  • Participate in on-going education so as to promote professional growth and development as a nurse educator
  • Model critical thinking and clinical reasoning for students in a variety of classroom and clinical settings and promote opportunities for students to develop these skills
  • Maintain professional practice knowledge in order to help students prepare for contemporary nursing practice
  • Develop working relationships with students, faculty, and clinical agency staff to promote positive learning environments
  • Engage in student retention strategies as appropriate
  • Provide guidance and resources to students so as to meet their individual learning needs
  • Promote learning environments that are geared toward socialization to the role of the professional nurse within the larger professional nursing community
  • Conduct clinical and didactic evaluation of students
  • Use various methods to assess and evaluate student learning in a variety of cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students
  • Act as a role model for ethnic and cultural diversity when advocating for change
  • Provide leadership at both the college and program level to enhance the visibility of contributions to the local and regional communities
  • Use feedback from self, peer, student, and administrative evaluations to improve role effectiveness
  • Maintain professional affiliations and certifications
  • Demonstrate qualities of a scholar which include integrity, courage, perseverance, vitality, and creativity
  • Maintain professional, educational, and clinical relationships. Participate in department activities including department meetings
  • Other duties as assigned


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Master’s degree in nursing required; PhD, DNP or terminal degree in Nursing or a related field preferred.
  • If Doctorate degree is not in nursing, then the Master’s degree must be in nursing.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  

  • Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Wisconsin
  • Current CPR certification
  • Other health requirements per University or clinical agency requests

Cardinal Stritch University is seeking a qualified applicant for temporary part-time teaching assignments. These positions are filled on an as-needed basis and are on-going needs of the University. Assignments may include day, evening and weekend courses and may be in-person, online or hybrid.
