Job Description

 

 

The Couple and Family Therapy Department at Adler University is launching a Certificate in Sex Therapy in the 2021-2022 academic year. The ten-credit blended curriculum has been reviewed and we are approved as an Organizational Provider II by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT).  This is a quarter-time (.25) faculty position with teaching and administrative duties.

This 12-month position reports to the chair of the Couple and Family Therapy Department. The Certificate Manager will play a crucial role in the launching, marketing, and management of the new Certificate in Sex Therapy. Applicants must be Certified Sex Therapy (CST) and Licensed Marital/Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with additional preferred qualifications as a CST Supervisor. Experience as a graduate-level instructor/faculty is also preferred as the position entails teaching responsibilities within the certificate (or the department as needed). Clinicians with systemic training and experience with other clinical licenses will be considered. Experience in academic and/or higher education settings is preferred.

The Manager provides thought-leadership to the university while leveraging industry knowledge and best practices to promote the mission and vision of the Couple and Family Therapy Department and the institution. Supports culture development and management efforts.

Education/Experience:

  • Master's Degree in Marriage/Couple and Family Therapy, Medical Family Therapy, Counseling, or related fields required. 
  • Minimum two (2) years experience as a graduate-level instructor/faculty required

 

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Status as an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist for at least two years;
  • Licensed Marital/Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or a clinical license and five years experience as a systemic therapist; and
  • (preferred) Status as an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist Supervisor;

 

Supervision (if applicable):  Adjunct Faculty Instructors

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Teach ten (10) credits across the year;
  • Review and update curriculum especially across the first two cohorts and in response to AASECT (and field) requirements;
  • Serve as Faculty Advisor to all CST students not already enrolled in a graduate program at Adler;
  • Attend CFT faculty meetings once a month;
  • Coordinate with Marketing across all three campuses and represent the CST through conference attendance;
  • Encouraged to attend conferences (e.g., SSTAR, AASECT, ISSHWSH) to promote the certificate;
  • Coordinate with Admissions including reviewing applications and conduct virtual interviews with applicants;
  • Coordinate and attend student orientation each fall and spring;
  • Manage the confirmation (and renewal) of CEUs with AASECT;
  • Oversight of curriculum and coordinate curriculum review;
  • Serve as replacement instructor in event of core or affiliate faculty emergencies;
  • Develop resources and networks to assist graduates in finding placements and supervisors to meet the clinical training requirements of the certification;
  • Support approval processes (IBHE and HLC);
  • Recruit, support, manage, and evaluate adjunct faculty, and
  • Any other curricular, planning, and administrative duties.
