Hours will be between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Bargaining Unit Eligibility Yes-Staff Council Work Week 20 - 29 Hours Work Week-Other Information 20-29 hours/week Special Instructions to Applicants Position Introduction n/a Position Summary Teach and supervise all preschool curricular areas, provide for the needs of the children while in the care of the MCC Children's Learning Center, and participate with ECE student observations, as appropriate.   Reports to Director of MCC-Children's Learning Center Essential Functions and Responsibilities -         Attend and participate constructively at planning meetings and staff meetings-         Implement teaching methods consistent with the Center's curriculum model and the methods taught in the Early Childhood Education program-         Fill in for Director on an as need basis-         Prepare all materials in advance for implementation of the curriculum on a daily basis-         Assist in maintaining DCFS licensing standards and the national accreditation guidelines-         Report child abuse as mandated by law-         Resolve conflicts with both children and parents-         Decide upon and use behavioral techniques appropriate for educational needs of children-         Assess developmental progress through authentic assessment and report results to parents in a timely fashion-         Promote and supervise activities for children which encourage healthy emotional, social, cognitive and physical development-         Be responsive to children-         Interact, when appropriate, in children's activities-         Observe and maintain records of children's growth and development using authentic assessment tools such as observation and portfolios-         Maintain a clean and orderly environment-         Communicate with parents in a positive manner-         Set up and clean up in the classroom as necessary-         Provide daily direction and monitor student aides, giving guidance and instruction where needed-         Serve as a professional role model for ECE students and the child care community at large-         As requested act as cooperating teacher to the practicum students which will include: offering suggestions on implementation of activities in the classroom, giving directions for and supervising classroom duties in all areas of the classroom, observing practicum students implementing curricular activities, evaluating curricular activities using an evaluation form provided by the practicum instructor and contributing to the overall evaluation of the practicum student's performance using an evaluation form provided by the practicum instructor-         Participate with ECE student observations as appropriate and provide evaluation of students doing activities in the CLC when requested by the ECE faculty, using the evaluation tools provided-         Follow DCFS standards when serving as the Director -         Maintain and document 15 clock hours of professional activities each year to meet DCFS standards-         Provide office assistance as needed which will include: enrolling children, maintaining children's files, maintaining records of lunch orders and extra hours, and conducting and maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment-         Ability to use computers (in the office and classroom), laminator, copy machine and audiovisual equipment-         Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities-         Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor Required Education Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution, or the equivalent combination of related training and education. Other Required Qualifications -         Sixty (60) college credits from an accredited college or university with 18 of those credits in courses directly related to early childhood education or child development-         Or:  Thirty (30) college credits from an accredited college or university with 10 of those credits in courses directly related to early childhood education or child development and proof of enrollment in college until 60 college credits have been achieved. A total of 18 hours in courses directly related to child care or child development is required within the total two years of college credits, plus two years (3,120 clock hours) of experience in a licensed preschool, child care center or kindergarten-         Age of 21 or older-         One year of experience in a licensed, preschool/child care facility-         First Aid and CPR -         Mandated Reporter in accordance with DCFS -         Blood borne Pathogens Legislation-         Attend 15 hours of continuing education each year Desired Qualifications · Sixty (60) hours of credit from an accredited college or university with 18 semester or equivalent quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development from birth to age six. Beyond DCFS requirements, an Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Early Childhood Education or related area Skills and Specifications   -         Microsoft Office Suite skills-         Ability to learn technological applications-         Ability to demonstrate interactive skills with children consistent with Children's Learning Center policies-         Ability to work independently as well as in a team-         Knowledge of DCFS licensing standards and national accreditation guidelines-         Knowledge of portfolio assessment  -         Written and oral communication skills-         Self-directed and flexible-         Ability to work under pressure-         Strong interpersonal skills-         Good organizational skills-         Ability to identify problems and provide solutions-         Willingness and ability to make decisions that impact how the department provides services and support to customers-         Ability to safely lift 50 pounds, unassisted-         Ability to smell, taste, and see, including color, depth, and texture perception-         Commitment and respect for diversity-         Commitment to the College mission and goals -         Ability to perform all of the essential functions, skills, and specifications of the position
