Visiting Assistant Professor
Department of Educational Policy and Leadership

The Department of Educational Policy and Leadership of the School of Education at the University at Albany, SUNY, invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor with specialization in Higher Education and/or Comparative & International Education. The successful applicant will engage with colleagues whose interests and work span pre-K to post-graduate education; domestic, regional and global educational policy; and who prepare students to be innovative scholar-leaders in diverse formal and non-formal education settings. Applicants who bring unique perspectives to the study of higher education and/or comparative/international education, including those who draw from experience and interests in diverse groups and educational settings, are encouraged to apply.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Publishing and obtaining funding to support research into higher education and/or comparative and international education
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (in-person, online, or hybrid), including departmental core courses and courses in organizational leadership and development, higher education administration, student affairs, student assessment, retention/persistence, and/or comparative and international education (two courses per semester)
  • Advising masters and doctoral students
  • Contributing to recruitment activities, including developing strong connections to administrators in colleges and universities and policy institutes
  • Serving on department, school, and university committees



Preferred and Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned doctoral degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization completed by January 2022 as evidenced by graduate transcript(s)
  • Candidates must have an active research program in higher education administration with attention to student affairs, student assessment, retention/persistence, and/or comparative or international education as evidenced by scholarly and professional publications and/or external funding.
  • Candidates must also have a strong teaching record in content applicable to student affairs, student assessment, and/or retention/persistence, leadership and organizational development broadly relevant to practice, learning across the lifespan, and comparative & international education.
  • Applicants must address in their applications their abilities to work with a culturally diverse population. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in organizational analysis and development
  • Experience in higher education administration
