The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences invites applications and nominations for two (2) tenure-track assistant professor positions in the fields of (1) violence/victimization (e.g., family violence, school violence, mass shootings, terrorism, hate/bias crimes, etc.) and (2) criminal justice systems (e.g., policing, courts, and corrections) with primary teaching responsibilities on the Statesboro campus.

Founded in 1906, Georgia Southern University is a Carnegie Doctoral/R2 institution with a focus on public-impact research, serving about 27,000 students on three beautiful campuses in Statesboro, Savannah, and Hinesville, and via a growing online program. Within this setting, the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology provides a comprehensive examination of justice, crime, and victimization. The program offers both an in-person and fully online Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology that enrolls approximately 800 students across all campuses and a minor with 175 students. The department also houses an in-person and online Master of Science (MS) program in Criminal Justice and Criminology with concentrations in criminal justice/criminology and cybercrime. In addition, the Department offers an online Graduate Certificate in Cybercrime. The successful candidates are expected to contribute to both our undergraduate and graduate programs through their expertise in violence, victimization, or criminal justice systems.

Position Description. Reporting to the Department Chair, the assistant positions require teaching, research, and service in the areas of violence, victimization, or criminal justice systems. The positions are academic year tenure-track appointments, and the salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
Earned PhD in Criminal Justice or Criminology, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours relevant to the specialization areas being sought, by August 1, 2022.
Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:
College or university teaching experience (part-time experience is permissible)
Willingness to engage in funded research.
Scholars who can also contribute in the areas of inequalities, rural crime, cybercrime, statistics, and qualitative research methods are also strongly encouraged to apply.

Conditions of Employment:
Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
All work for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period of time within current policy.
Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus.
Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses. Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
