Job Description


The Department of Biostatistics is seeking to hire an exceptional senior faculty member with a distinguished and internationally recognized record of innovative, original, high-impact research in biostatistics, data science or related fields; a successful track record and strong commitment to education and mentoring in biostatistics and health data science; and potential to develop or lead new scientific initiatives at the intersection of data science and health.  The successful candidate will join a rapidly growing faculty in biostatistics, public health and data science at Brown, will have the opportunity to collaborate with world-class researchers at the School of Public Health and across the University, and will be able to engage in educational programs at the undergraduate, masters and doctoral level.  The School of Public Health has prioritized health data science as a key growth area.  The hire is being made at the Associate or Full Professor level, with tenure.

Faculty in the Department of Biostatistics are engaged in a broad range of methodologic and collaborative research.  Areas of methodologic expertise and activity include causal inference, design and analysis of randomized trials, computational biology, radiomics and methods for diagnostic imaging data, machine learning, and Bayesian inference.  Active fields of collaborative domain-area research include infectious disease, neuroscience, health services research, global health, and cancer diagnosis and prevention.  In addition to the above, thematic priority areas for the School of Public Health include health data science, pandemic preparedness, and climate change.

The Department’s educational offerings include programs leading to the PhD and ScM degrees in biostatistics and the undergraduate concentration in statistics at Brown.  We also teach courses for students in the MPH program, the Data Science masters program, and graduate programs in the School of Public Health, Division of Biology and Medicine, and the broader University community. 

Preferred and Required Qualifications

All candidates must have a doctoral degree in biostatistics, statistics, data science or a closely related field, show evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills, and possess strong ability and interest in teaching and mentoring of students in the growing educational programs in biostatistics and health data science.
