Job Description:

The Department of Kinesiology at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP) invites applicants for the position of Department Chair and Associate/Full Professor to begin August 2022 or earlier, based on availability.
The Kinesiology Department comprises seven full-time faculty members and 26 part-time lecturers with a dual appointment in athletics who teach and advise approximately 500 undergraduate students and 21 graduate students. Classes are taught in the following courses of study: B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science (Exercise Physiology, Health Promotion, and Recreation and Sports Administration) and M.A. in Exercise and Sports Administration. The department also supports the M.A. in Physical Education, M.A.T. in Physical Education, and undergraduate P.E./Health K-12 curriculum (housed in the School of Education). Additionally, the department encompasses minors in Recreation, Health Promotion, and Sport Leadership.
The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate will be:
Teaching both undergraduate and graduate students (six hours per semester) in area of expertise; Advising undergraduate students;

Aiding students in internship and practicum placement and transfer credit evaluation;

Determining course scheduling and staffing for over approximately 160 sections per semester (which includes three-hour lecture classes, labs, and one-hour physical education classes required for all UNCP students);

Supervising and evaluating full-time and part-time faculty and office and clerical staff;

Planning, scheduling, and supervising department meetings and coverage at events, including Open House and Orientation sessions;

Requesting and overseeing the department budgets;

Creating program assessment and accreditation reports;

Aiding faculty in producing scholarship and research by identifying and developing grant and research funding opportunities;

Performing service to the department and University;
Serving as a liaison between the faculty, the Director of Athletics, and the Dean by monitoring the quality of programs by evaluating and recommending faculty for tenure and promotion, coordinating the hiring of new faculty (in conjunction with the Director of Athletics for dual appointment positions), performing other duties related to career counseling and salary;

Ensuring department members meet all University requirements, in conjunction with the Director of Athletics for faculty members serving dual roles in academics and athletics;

Engaging in strategic planning for the department and University in conjunction with the Director of Athletics for initiatives that impact both units;

Supervising the use of, maintenance of, and accounting for equipment, facilities, and supplies that are often shared with the Department of Athletics and the Department of Campus Recreation;Serving as a University liaison to the community and the region;

Performing other duties as directed by the Dean, Provost, or Chancellor;

Due to the size of the faculty, the number of students within the department, and the relationship between academics and the athletic department at UNCP, the successful candidate needs to possess strong leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
