Organizational Summary

The mission of USF’s School of Public Affairs is to deliver scholarly research and professional graduate degree and certificate programs—including our MPA Program—to meet the needs of 21st Century governments and the communities they serve. To that end, the school, along with and through its John Scott Dailey Florida Institute of Government, has developed strong working relationships with local, state, federal, and non-profit leaders and organizations—not only in our region and our state, but nationally and internationally as well—and that network offers the public administration scholar an ideal laboratory for research.

 

Position Summary

 

The University of South Florida’s School of Public Affairs invites applications for a tenure-track position as an assistant professor in its NAASPA-accredited Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program. This is a nine-month appointment, with a starting date of August 7, 2022, for the Fall 2022 semester. The successful applicant will be expected to teach a variety of courses in the MPA Program's core curriculum, as well as elective courses that are consistent with the school’s instructional and research agenda. Applicants should show a strong record of or potential for research productivity and thought leadership commensurate with rank. (Research specialization is open but should fall within the broad fields of public administration and policy).

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

A PhD in public administration, public policy, public management, or a closely related field from an accredited institution is required at the time of appointment. ABD applicants will be considered, but the degree must be conferred by the appointment start date. Must meet University criteria for the rank of Assistant Professor.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:

 

  •  Strong evidence of impactful research productivity (demonstrated through refereed publications   and written research sample) that contributes to the fields of public administration and policy. 
  •  The ability to teach graduate-level courses in one or more of the following areas: quantitative   analysis;  organizational leadership; administrative law/regulation; and/or public budgeting. 
  •  Excellence in undergraduate and graduate-level teaching (demonstrated through teaching   evaluations) 
  •  Expertise in data analytics and quantitative methods. As part of our MPA Program’s evolving   Policy Analysis Track, as well as the University’s analytics and data science initiative, the school   is interested in candidates with expertise in data analytics and quantitative methods,   particularly as they may be applied to issues of public management and public policy.
  •  Documented evidence of previous and/or current grant activity is preferred. (The University of   South Florida offers substantial resources in support of such efforts.) 
  •  Commitment to teaching in and contributing to a diverse university community.
