Job Summary: 

The Employer & Internship Specialist is responsible for developing and administering a comprehensive employer relations and internship program. This position establishes and cultivates relationships with current employer contacts, new employer contacts, department chairs, and other potential recruiters to develop full-time and internship opportunities. The specialist advises students and recent alumni seeking full-time employment and internship/apprenticeship opportunities on search methods, resume preparation, or other types of required documents. This position works occasional evenings and/or weekend.  This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Career Services. 



• Serves as the main point of contact for employers by managing the day-to-day pipeline of employers, while executing on the Office of Career Service’s employer relations strategic plan.

• Engages employers by identifying and providing opportunities for recruiters to connect with the Otis campus community on an on-going basis throughout the academic year.

• Develops and administers a comprehensive student internship program. Works closely with supervisor to develop policies and procedures regarding internship opportunities and placement. 

• Establishes and cultivates contacts with employers to develop and increase the number of full-time, internship and apprenticeship opportunities. Interfaces with department chairs and other campus personnel to coordinate internships for credit. 

• Ensures paperwork is completed and approved before students start working, including all required paperwork for international students (i.e., CPT and OPT paperwork). 

• Advises students and provides guidance on internship planning including the development of learning outcome goals, preparing resumes and cover letters, interviewing skills, research skills, and/or other internship-related documents and activities.  May administer and interpret tests as a part of this process including mock interviews.

• Develops, communicates, and markets employment resources to the campus community through program promotions, classroom presentations, workshops, and faculty and community partnerships. Utilizes social media platforms, email, posters, etc. to inform and engage external employers, recruiters, and other contacts. 

• Monitors the effectiveness of internship/apprenticeship programs; conducts surveys and evaluations. Analyzes feedback from employers, student interns, and other key stakeholders. Recommends and discusses service modifications with supervisor as necessary to ensure on-going support to student interns, employers, campus personnel, and other key stakeholders. 

• Conducts site visits to meet with student interns and their supervisors. Troubleshoots problems and counsels student interns who are not doing well or are struggling with some aspect of their internship experience. 

• Maintains records for tracking internship opportunities, contacts, placement, and outcomes. Compiles and collects information to prepare reports and status updates. 

• Establishes and maintains an appropriate network of professional contacts and participation in professional organizations. Maintains currency on legal issues concerning internships and apprenticeships. Attends and participates in meetings, conferences, etc. as appropriate. Represents the College and/or Career Services on College committees as needed. 

• Maintains updated internship listings on the College’s online student job board. 

• Participates in general Career Services programs as needed. 

• May teach an academic course related to internships including research methodologies, application processes, resume and cover letter writing, and interviewing skill development. 

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, or Higher Education is preferred. A combination of education plus a minimum of two years full-time experience coordinating employer engagement efforts, an internship program, or co-op program in a college or university may substitute for Master’s degree. Previous experience working in an art/design college is a plus, but not required. Individual requires excellent organizational skills; ability to multi-task; ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment; ability to communicate diplomatically in person and in writing is required. Must be able to work occasional evenings and/or weekends; must be able to travel based on business necessity.
