Job Description

 

The Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering (SSIE) at Binghamton University's Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science is expanding further and seeks three (3) assistant professors and one (1) research scientist:

The assistant professor positions would begin in the spring or fall 2022 semesters per above and involve teaching at all levels from undergraduate courses to advanced graduate courses, and establishing theoretical and applied research in the area of Human Factors Engineering/Ergonomics (1 position) or Healthcare Systems Engineering (2 positions).  Preference will be given to candidates with HFEE applications in the broad health systems domain, but other application areas will also be considered.

The SSIE Department has consistently secured over 5 million dollars in research funding per year for the last three years. In the 2020-2021 fiscal year, the SSIE Department had over $10 million in research expenditures. At this level of research productivity, the SSIE Department ranked the highest on-campus in research expenditures.  Our faculty members work collaboratively with over 30 sponsors from industry and federal agencies. With an excellent and growing academic reputation, the SSIE Department is internationally renowned in the electronics manufacturing/packaging and flexible electronics arenas. Another area of substantial growth is health systems, and our faculty works with several major healthcare organizations across the nation and abroad. Other significant areas of growth include, but are not limited to, additive manufacturing and 3D printing, advanced data science/analytics, applied operations research/optimization, complex systems science and modeling, and energy systems. The department has twenty-six (26) faculty members and offers a BS degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE), MS degrees in Systems Science (SS), Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE), and Healthcare Systems Engineering (HSE), and PhD degrees in Systems Science (SS) and Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE). SSIE also offers a cutting-edge executive health systems program in Manhattan. With about 220 undergraduate, 210 masters, and 180 doctoral students, the department is growing in numbers and in reputation. More details are available at http://www.binghamton.edu/ssie/ . Preferred and Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate must have (i) an earned doctorate in industrial engineering or the applied sciences, (ii) excellent leadership skills, and (iii) superb records of research, including garnering funding and scholarly publications. Teaching experience is preferred.

One assistant professor position requires expertise in the area of Human Factors Engineering/Ergonomics. Preference will be given to candidates with HFEE applications in the broad health systems domain, but other application areas will also be considered.

Two assistant professor positions require expertise in the broad areas of health systems engineering, healthcare data science/analytics, population health, healthcare information technology/systems, genomics and personalized/precision medicine. Qualified applicants in other emerging areas of industrial and systems engineering may be considered.
