Job Summary
This position assists the Golf Course Director in the management and operation of a comprehensive 18 hole championship golf facility.


  • Recruit, hire, train, develop and supervise 20-30 student staff including graduate assistant(s) and golf assistants
  • Conduct individual lessons and group clinics
  • Assist in managing golf car operation, practice facility
  • Provide club repair and club fitting services to customers
  • Responsible for timely and consistently maintaining the club's USGA Handicap System
  • Play golf with a variety of customers in competitive and non-competitive situations
  • Assist in planning and budgeting for the golf operations
  • Maintain and utilize risk management best practices
  • Assist with department and/or facility special events
  • Maintain industry standards
  • Serve on University and departmental work teams and committees
  • Provide management of outside service staff
  • Supervise and manage total golf operations in the absence of the Golf Course Director
  • Direct responsibility for Purchasing, Receiving, Display, Inventory, Control, Promotion, and Sales of Merchandise
  • Assist with a spectrum of adult and children's golf programs
  • Coordinate Tournament and Outings along with the Director of Golf including planning, pre-tournament contracts, post-tournament billing, promotion, course set-up, preparation, scoring, prize distribution, and follow up
  • Inventory control of hard goods, soft goods, and special orders including ordering procedures, receiving procedures, inputting into point of sale, pricing procedures, display, and sales
  • Assisting in the publication of newsletters, and informational and promotional material
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University
  • Assist with golfer check-in and fee collection; control and manage play

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field

Other Required Qualifications

  • PGA Associate member in good standing

Required Experience

  • One or more years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Golf Association (PGA) Class A Member status
  • Knowledge of the GHIN handicap/TPP or Golf Genius tournament systems
  • Proven record of developing, promoting and expanding golf activities and programming

Preferred Experience

  • Experience within a University golf setting
  • Supervisory experience

Proposed Salary
$47,000 - $56,000

  • Actively pursue PGA membership (if a PGA Apprentice) in a timely manner through the PGA Professional Golf Management (PGA PGM) program
  • Maintain a credible golf game and remain current on teaching innovations
  • Utilize the resources of PGA player development programs such as Get Golf Ready, PGA Sports Academy, Tee it Forward, and others


  • Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations
  • Fundamental supervisory practices and principles
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success


  • Demonstrate commitment to inclusiveness by working well with diverse populations
  • Effective communication (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrate appropriate organizational skills as required for specific position
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
