Position Summary

The Case Manager, Accommodations, Accessibility Services is responsible for interpretation and application of the regulations of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and College policies and provisions for accommodation of Dallas College students with disabilities. The purpose of this position is to ensure students with disabilities learn in an accessible, equitable and inclusive environment. This ensures that students with disabilities who experience barriers in the design of College programs, services, and facilities have equal access through the provision of accommodations. This position works with each student and the appropriate stakeholders to develop a plan of action and/or accommodation plan with students experiencing barriers by conducting interviews, collaborating with the student, and reviewing medical documentation to develop the plan of equal access. Position partners with students, faculty, and staff to create an inclusive campus community that values the talents and abilities of all people.

• An understanding of contemporary issues in higher education is required through professional development activities
• Experience working with student support programs (counseling, threat assessment, health & wellness programs, etc.)
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding students, supervisors or other employees
• Experience working with special populations with differing needs such as foster care, homeless, underrepresented males, first generation students, veterans, etc.
• Highly collaborative leader with experience in a comparably diverse and complex college/university with a proven track record of enhancing quality, excellence, institutional diversity, equity and inclusion, and student success
• Ability to work effectively with ethnic, cultural, and socially and economically diverse student populations
• An appreciation of shared governance and evidence of strong ability to work effectively and collaboratively with administration, faculty, students, staff, and other constituent groups and partners, both within and outside a college or university with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
• Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student accessibility and the Americans with Disabilities Act and Veterans
• Excellent time management, and organizational and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge and understanding of student development theory and programs; knowledge of student due process policies/procedures; knowledge and understanding of the current issues and trends in student affairs and student development

Physical Requirements

Normal physical job functions performed within a standard office environment.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

Minimum Knowledge and Experience

• Associates in related field. Official transcripts required.
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible in leadership
• Current and valid Texas driver’s license required.
• Ability to work extended hours beyond the regular 8:00 am to 5:00 pm workday especially during heavy registration peak times including nights and weekends.
• Experience working with ADA Compliance.
• Experience working with working with diverse student and staff populations.
• Excellent interpersonal relations skills

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Work with and leverage technology platforms such as Navigator, Pieces, and Accommodate to support students with disabilities.
• Verify and review all requests for accessibility and disability accommodations; interpret confidential psycho-educational and/or other documentation and make recommendations.
• Consult with medical professionals and other specialists regarding referrals for accessibility and disability evaluations and appropriate accommodations.
• Develop, monitor, adjust, and evaluate individual accommodation plans for students with LD, ADD, Physical Disabilities, Sensory Impairments, Psychiatric and other conditions based on individual documentation, functional needs, and abilities.
• Consult with College attorney and administration on ADA compliance issues and risk mitigation as related to ADA compliance.
• Create and maintain a confidential database for student files while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
• Oversee and monitor progress of students with disabilities, helping students to advocate for themselves and to articulate their unique accommodation needs. Provide letters of accommodation for students to use as communication tools with appropriate staff and faculty.
• Assess assistive-technology and adaptive equipment needs and collaborate with IT for support, and with Institutional Advancement in seeking grants and additional funding for programs and equipment.
• Coordinate provision of deaf services such as Communication Access Real-Time Translation (CART) for Deaf and Hearing-Impaired students.
• Provide textbooks in alternative format to students with print disabilities in accord with copyright holder Disability Permissions protocols and the federal Copyright Revisions Act of 1976, as amended. Create and maintain Textbook Permissions and End User Agreement files in accordance with Copyright Permissions agreements.
• Provide information to prospective students and parents regarding services provided and disability documentation requirements, as well as respond to public inquiries.
• Evaluate effectiveness of services through a variety of survey and research methods.
• Serve on campus committees and workgroups as needed.
• Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
