Job Title Catering and Culinary Support Assistant Department Conference & Event Services FLSA Status Non-Exempt Job Type Staff Position Grade 7 Employee Type Full Time Hiring Range Commensurate with experience Grant Funded No Work Year 12 Months Work Year-Other Information Typical Work Schedule 40 Hours - Flexible schedule to meet department needs to include evenings and weekends, based on the needs of the event schedule and client requests.  Bargaining Unit Eligibility Yes-Staff Council Work Week 40 Hours Work Week-Other Information Special Instructions to Applicants Position Introduction McHenry County College (MCC) seeks a dynamic member of MCC's Conference and Event Services team to support all planning of food and beverage menus for MCC's special events, internal/external event clients, and Culinary and Baking and Pastry Management programs. The Catering and Culinary Support Assistant role will provide administrative outreach and event support to various College departments, including MCC Café and the Culinary and Baking and Pastry Management programs. This is a fabulous opportunity for a highly organized catering and hospitality professional to deliver the highest level of service related to the customer event experience, all in one of the most progressive and innovative community colleges in Illinois.  Position Summary As a key member of MCC's Conference and Event Services team, the Catering and Culinary Support Assistant delivers the highest level of service related to the customer event experience. This highly organized catering and hospitality professional provides administrative outreach and event support to various College departments, including MCC Café and Culinary and Baking and Pastry Management programs. With direction from the Manager of Conference and Event Services, this event professional coordinates all planning of food and beverage menus for MCC's special events, internal/external event clients, and Culinary and Baking and Pastry Management programs. In support of the College mission of student success, and its behaviors of excellence, this position plays a critical role in serving both internal and external clients.  Reports to Manager of Conference and Event Services Essential Functions and Responsibilities -Assist with MCC menu coordination and selection (for MCC Café, Culinary and Baking and Pastry Management, Catering) at least three weeks in advance to ensure purchase orders, order processing and inventory is onsite for needs-Maintain a process for tracking distribution and waste -Coordinate inventory of all food and beverage for MCC Café, Culinary and Baking and Pastry Management, and Catering  -Maintain alcohol inventory and records -Process annual health department and alcohol license applications and necessary paperwork -Process all invoices and billing -Schedule all catering for MCC meetings and special events -Facilitate orders for linens, rentals, décor, and specialty items needed for events -Gather customer requirements and details -Help maintain MCC Catering and Culinary and Baking and Pastry pantry, cooler, and freezer to ensure first in/first out and cleanliness-Help with preparation, setup, service, and tear-down at special events, as needed - Identify event staffing needs, in partnership with event host- Act as a liaison to the Center for Agrarian Learning (CAL), MCC Entrepreneurial Agriculture, and Horticulture programs for MCC Catering and Culinary produce needs -Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations -Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities-Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor Required Education Associate's Degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution Other Required Qualifications -Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution-Up to three years related experience in catering, hospitality, or event planning -Computer database and ordering experience-Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification (required or obtained within 30 days)-Basset Alcohol Service License required upon hire (within 30 days)-Food Allergen Certification and COVID-19 Awareness Certifications (required or obtained within 30 days)-Budgeting and fiscal responsibility experience  Desired Qualifications -Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution-Certification in hospitality or culinary management -Extensive event management and/or catering experience Skills and Specifications -         Highest level of service delivery -         Strong verbal and written communication skills-         Exercise good judgment, diplomacy, discretion, and patience-         Excellent problem solving, organizational and time/project management skills -         Ability to work under pressure-         Ability to establish and maintain collaborative and cooperative working relationships with others-         High level of technology proficiency, with ability to learn and run various software programs - Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint skills required-         Strong inventory maintenance (automated) skills-         Creative, detail oriented, self-starter-         Ability to work independently, yet coordinate details and projects with a team -         Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends-         Ability to smell and taste-         Ability to safely lift up to 40 pounds unassisted-         Ability to bend, stoop, walk, and stand for extended periods of time related to special events
