Job Title Coordinator of Laboratory - Biology Department Biology FLSA Status Non-Exempt Job Type Staff Position Grade 9 Employee Type Full Time Hiring Range Commensurate with experience Grant Funded No Work Year 12 Months Work Year-Other Information Typical Work Schedule 40 Hours - Flexible schedule to meet department needs, to include daytime, evening, and weekends Bargaining Unit Eligibility Yes-Staff Council Work Week 40 Hours Work Week-Other Information Special Instructions to Applicants Position Introduction Join the MCC division of Math and Science in our Biology lab, preparing and assembling media and equipment used in biological experiments and demonstrations; operating and servicing scientific equipment; assisting students and faculty with instructional activities; and ordering, issuing, receiving, and storing laboratory materials and supplies. Will also be responsible for maintaining inventory and SDS records.  This is an on-campus opportunity. Position Summary Oversee operation of all biology laboratory facilities. Reports to Dean of Mathematics and Sciences. Biology Department Chair also provides daily direction Essential Functions and Responsibilities · Oversee the operation and maintenance of any and all laboratory resources (laboratory, prep room, and equipment 
· Develop and maintain a laboratory training manual 
· Prepare and replenish supplies, media, and equipment needed for experiments 
· Understand the operation of equipment and laboratory techniques used within the department 
· Assist the instructors when utilizing special equipment or replacing equipment for students during laboratory sessions 
· Instruct users on the correct procedure for operating laboratory equipment 
· Provide access to the labs for open lab 
· Maintain live animals, plants, and stock in microbiological cultures 
· Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, order laboratory supplies as needed, maintain files of purchase requisitions and orders, maintain contact with suppliers and receive all items purchased by the area; travel to local suppliers for pickup of materials as needed 
· Maintain and monitor security and safety of prep rooms and laboratories, including storage and use of hazardous chemicals and potentially pathogenic bacteria and fungi 
· Coordinate semester schedule of laboratory experiments for all biology classes 
· Assist instructors with equipment for new labs 
· Train, coordinate and direct the daily work of Laboratory Assistant-Biology and student workers 
· Assist in the preparation of the budget by submitting lists of supplies and materials needed 
· Conduct tutoring sessions on equipment for faculty as required 
· Maintain cadavers during periods of non-instruction 
· Uphold all health and safety regulations related to biology laboratories, including coordinating the removal of hazardous waste 
· Under direction of supervisor and/or biology department chair, review potential student worker applications and coordinate completion of hiring paperwork with other departments (e.g. Human Resources, Financial Aid) 
· Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities 
· Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor Required Education Associate's Degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution Other Required Qualifications · Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution with coursework in Biology, Microbiology, and/or Chemistry 
· Two years work experience, preferably in a laboratory setting Desired Qualifications · Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution with coursework in Biology, Microbiology, and/or Chemistry preferred. Skills and Specifications · Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and internet 
· Ability to learn technological applications 
· Ability to grow with technology and philosophical directions implemented by the College 
· Organizational and interpersonal skills 
· Knowledge of scientific experiments and equipment required 
· Willing to learn new techniques and procedures 
· Ability to work independently 
· Ability to make decisions that govern the activities of others and determine how the department provides services and support to students and instructors 
· Ability to problem solve and repair routine equipment failures as well as identify and coordinate the repair of equipment 
· Ability to safely lift 40 pounds unassisted
