Purdue University Northwest (PNW) invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Health Studies in the Department of Biological Sciences within the College of Engineering and Sciences. The expected start date for this position is August 15, 2022.
The Assistant Professor of Health Studies will teach courses that contribute to the core requirements for the degree as well as more advanced courses in health-related subjects. The successful candidate is expected to carry out an active research program involving undergraduate and M.S. students. The tenure-track assistant professor will also be involved in curriculum development and outreach activities.
The Department of Biological Sciences is a multi-disciplinary unit serving approximately 450 undergraduate majors and 25 graduate students. The department includes 14 tenured faculty members, and 3 staff members. The department offers a B. S. in Health Studies with approximately 100 majors taking a core of 33 credits with opportunities to follow tracks in health care administration/communications, and wellness/fitness or tracks for pre-professional programs in pre-occupational therapy and pre-physical therapy (https://www.pnw.edu/program-finder/health-studies-bs/). The unit also offers baccalaureate degrees in Biology, and Medical Laboratory Science, as well as a master’s degree in Biology. In fall of 2020, a new state of the art, 68,000 sq. ft. Bioscience Innovations Building opened on the Hammond campus. The facility houses the Department of Biological Sciences and the College of Nursing. The new building includes flexible teaching and research labs, as well as contemporary student interaction spaces.
