Under direct supervision of the Farm Manager, performs duties related to the day to day farm operations. Assist the Research professionals in accomplishing research goals and objectives relating to projects that require agricultural field studies.


  • Operate tractors and other farm equipment for tilling the soil for crops, planting, cultivating, and spreading crop seeds. Cut, rake, bale and hual hay, including mowing farm roadside areas.
  • Observe University and CAHS administrative policies to insure full compliance with mandated training and implementation of the institutional program for animal care and use. Build, repair, construct fence around farm buildings, crop and animal grazing pastures.
  • Participates in working the livestock (primarily cattle) and poultry which includes but is not limited to feeding and routinely treating the livestock for either disease contraction or prevention.
  • Performs minor repairs to greenhouses, buildings, and farm/ranch equipment.
  • Assists with performing any other special tasks relating to the Farm Operations and assisting the CARC Researchers in reaching their research objectives.
  • Assists in the preparation, irrigation, and harvest of field plots and greenhouse plants.
  • Performs a variety of work assignments utilizing mechanical, carpentry, and welding skills.
  • Repair and/or participate in repairing the farm machines, equipment, and vehicles

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One (1) year of related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of agricultural field research or laboratory work.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with other

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of experience or more working in agriculture, ranch, farm or field laboratory work .

Other Requirements:

  • Some knowledge of plumbing, welding, using cutting torch etc.
  • Work in inclement weather conditions also be able to work with all types of livestock and poultry on the farm.
  • Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy objects
