Assistant Director of Admissions
Hobart and William Smith Colleges
  • Develop and coordinate the HWS admissions social networking activities.
  • Maintain relationship with several vendors who support our on-line activities.
  • Act as primary HWS admissions representative to two key geographic markets.
  • Represent the Colleges to prospective students and their families.
  • Develop individual recruitment plans for interested prospective students.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with high school and independent counselors.
  • Conduct individual interviews with students.
  • Assist regional coordinator with recruitment efforts including travel (6-8 weeks), school relations, communication with prospective students, maintaining the Alumni/ae Volunteer Network, on-campus open house/scholarship programs.
  • Assist students in the assessment of their individual strengths, weaknesses and differences, especially as they relate to academic achievement and post-secondary planning.
  • Provide students with information and assistance regarding admissions application procedures and timelines.
  • Establish a continuum of personalized communication with prospective candidates so they will feel welcome to request continued assistance and strengthen their connection to the Colleges.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural and economic circumstances of students.
  • Assist with on-campus interviewing of prospective students.
  • Understand and interpret forms and data-driven documents that are a part of the admission and financial processes including: application for admissions, accepted student questionnaires, enrollment planning data, admissions charts and tables, needs assessment documents.
  • Coordinate with respective associate director assigned on campus program(s).
  • Demonstrate knowledge for the Colleges’ educational philosophy and mission.
  • Interview, hire, organize and train student assistants. Create work-shift schedules and oversee the day-to-day management of all student workers.
  • Develop new strategies to effectively manage e-mail and web-based communications and be involved in new technology initiatives.
  • Participate fully in reviewing applicant folders from designated region.
  • Coordinate and implement student-to-student phonathons.
  • Coordinate on-campus hosting program.
  • Develop a liaison with various student organizations, clubs, and groups.
  • Assist in the preparation of regional and functional office reports.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree is required. Three years of college admission recruitment or related experience preferred. Candidates for the position must possess superb written and oral communication skills, computer skills, familiarity with the Internet, a high level of energy, a valid driver’s license and a lively imagination. Knowledge of enrollment systems applications, MicroSoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint helpful.

OTHER INFORMATION: This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible administrative position. Normal campus office hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the academic year and a possible shorten workweek during the scheduled summer hours time period. Additional hours may be required on occasion. Travel is required. This position description is not all-inclusive, as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned.
