The Human Resources Specialist is a full-time career service position. The Human Resources Specialist will perform daily functions for personnel actions affecting payroll on new hires, existing employees, and out-processing of terminations. In addition, duties will include, but not limited to the following, processing newly hired or rehired employees, including orientation and system set up, obtaining required certifications and transcripts, work with leave tracking for various reasons such as transfer in leave adjustments; assists with tracking evaluation system and professional development information; processes payroll exit actions; assists with other departmental functions such as document scanning for file maintenance, responding to records’ requests, and making presentations on human resources issues. The successful candidate will perform detail-oriented and routine office tasks while demonstrating excellent customer service skills at all times. The tasks to be performed require one to sit at a desk and view a display screen for extended periods of time. This position may be required to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends for special events. This position reports to the Director, Human Resources.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate’s degree* or appropriate work experience on a year to year basis may be substituted for the college degree requirement and two years full-time experience in human resources; or graduation from high school or GED equivalency and four years full-time experience in any aspect of human resources. College coursework may be substituted for experience. Successful results of a criminal background check are required.
*Per F.S. 295.065 – Certain servicemembers and veterans, and the spouses and family members of such servicemembers and veterans, will receive preference and priority, and certain servicemembers may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements.
Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in automated payroll/leave accounting; human resources orientation and onboarding processes; skilled in making presentations to groups and individuals; demonstrated ability to explain policies, procedures, and processes; and excellent customer service, office management, and organizational skills.
SALARY RANGE: $29,406.00 (15.08/hour)
