Job Description

 

The Department of Counselor Education at Boise State University invites applications for a School Counseling Assistant/Associate Professor of Counselor Education starting in the fall semester of 2022. The faculty member will (a) teach school counseling courses, as well as a variety of core counselor education courses, including PhD in CES Apprentice Model courses; (b) conduct research to develop or further a strong scholarly agenda in the field of Counseling; (c) mentor and advise MA and PhD in CES students; and (d) participate in service activities at the University, College, and Department level, as well as engage in community and professional service activities . The successful candidate will join our team to make all contributions to successfully achieve our department's and university's missions. Specifically, successful candidates are expected to:

  • Pursue an innovative research program
  • Supervise Masters and PhD students
  • Mentor students in research activities
  • Teach school counseling courses, as well as a broad range of courses in Counselor Education including PhD in CES Apprentice Model courses
  • Develop modern teaching methodologies, adopt culturally competent instructional practices, and deliver online and remote teaching as needed
  • Provide service to the department, university, community, and profession
  • Demonstrated advanced level of oral and written communication skills.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program prior to August 2022, or have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a Counselor Education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2022
  • Background in school counseling (i.e., MA in School Counseling, experience working as a school counselor)
  • Evidence of effective teaching in a CACREP-accredited program in Counselor Education or equivalent
  • Demonstrated potential for a strong research agenda, including pursuit of external funding commensurate to rank
  • Professionalism and collegiality
  • License eligible as a professional counselor in Idaho and ability to obtain LPC by Fall 2022

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of collaboration/partnerships with other academic departments, school districts, mental health agencies, and/or multidisciplinary teams
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to advising/mentoring and teaching in our unique CACREP accredited PhD in CES program
