Writing Sample (2-5 pages; an excerpt is fine) o Preferred: grant application, narrative (or any professional/academic writing sample is acceptable) Position Introduction n/a Position Summary The Grants Specialist coordinates all phases of the grant cycle at McHenry County College, including researching potential funding opportunities, preparing and writing grant applications, and supporting grant managers with post-award compliance. This exceptional and motivated writer and collaborator plays an integral role in obtaining both public and private funding that complements existing programming and supports new programming, and in ensuring MCC complies with grant regulations and reporting requirements. Reports to Director of Grants Essential Functions and Responsibilities · Write grant proposals (including narrative and budget development), ensuring that grants meet application criteria, align with McHenry County College's mission and goals, and attract funder interest 
· Research grant opportunities and assess appropriate fit of potential funding sources to make recommendations regarding whether to pursue funding opportunities 
· Maintain currency in project innovation, best practices, and community/institutional need for use in the development and writing of grant proposals 
· Organize, lead, and participate in cross-functional work teams for grant planning and development, including internal and external stakeholders, as appropriate 
· Assist with publicizing and distributing grant development and compliance information to employees (e.g. grant procedures manual, grant opportunities, regulatory updates, etc.) 
· Develop and maintain procedures to track researched opportunities, grant cycle calendars, institutional funding needs, and post-award compliance 
· Collaborate with grant managers, MCC's Business Office, and funding agencies to support grant compliance, reporting, and record retention. Assist grant managers in filing grant reports in an accurate and timely manner, as well as monitor grant fund disbursement 
· Provide ongoing grant support for Perkins, ICCB, and related grant projects 
· Communicate with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. funding agencies, program officers) to ensure appropriate standards of grant management are met 
· Lead grant kick-off meetings to support best practices in grant management, in addition to grant training sessions and informational workshops 
· Establish and maintain working relationships to serve as a resource for employees who seek grant funding 
· Participate in national, state, and local professional organizations as well as site visits with funders to develop and improve skills and knowledge to increase success in funding 
· Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities 
· Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor Required Education Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution Other Required Qualifications · Two years' related experience, including a combination of experience in writing, research, fundraising, and project management Desired Qualifications · Development experience in a college environment 
· Record of success in winning federal, state, and foundation grants 
· Experience with grant management and/or post-award compliance 
· Fluency and ability to write in Spanish Skills and Specifications · Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat 
· Strong technology skills 
· Strong data collection skills, using various tools such as funder directories, literature review, and the Internet 
· Excellent writing and editing skills, and ability to communicate complex information clearly, professionally, and succinctly to a variety of audiences 
· Excellent project management skills and strong attention to detail 
· Experience managing complex projects and meeting deadlines 
· Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; methods and techniques of editing; and demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication 
· Knowledge of, and experience with, grant writing and grant proposal components 
· Independent self-starter with tenacity and creative problem-solving skills 
· Problem solving skills in a team environment 
· Demonstrated experience handling confidential information with discretion 
· Excellent public relations and communications skills to effectively manage relationships with staff, faculty, funders, and the public. Group facilitation and consensus-building skills
