Have you ever considered becoming a police officer, or have you served your state or local police department for years and are interested in a change of environment? Are you interested in completing or furthering your education, or are you in the planning stages of sending your dependents to college? The Department of Public Safety at the University of Southern Maine is seeking applications for a full-time Police Officer.

Police Officers at the University of Southern Maine are specialists, with a strong commitment to the community policing and problem solving philosophy. In addition to performing general law enforcement, safety and emergency response functions. Public Safety officers enjoy the satisfaction of a close working relationship with our community. This is a 40 hour per week position on a schedule that is determined by unit seniority and shift bid, with overtime opportunities. Pay is $18.50/hr, or $21.00/hr if certified, plus shift and specialty differentials. Lateral entry pay may be considered under the current collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Valid Class C Maine driver's license

If not certified, the successful candidate will be required to attend and complete the Mane Criminal Justice Academy's live-in, 18 week Basic Law Enforcement Training Program.

After oral interviews are conducted, the finalist candidate must pass a physical fitness assessment (unless Full-Time certified), medical exam, background investigation, and job suitability assessment in accordance with Maine Criminal Just Academy standards.
