Job Description

Moravian University seeks a visionary candidate that will develop, launch, and lead an innovative Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program; someone who is a dynamic, collaborative leader who has an established track record for high quality curricular development at the university level and who is interested in preparing Nurse Practitioners for 21st Century careers. 

The successful candidate must have strong leadership and collaborative skills and be a change agent in order to create an online DNP program with residency experiences that will enhance current program offerings and for monitoring and ensuring program goals and outcomes are achieved. The successful candidate will provide support in an academic and clinical setting that will be conducive to effective, inclusive, and equitable student learning and personal development. They will utilize pedagogies appropriate for a diverse student population with an emphasis on adult learning strategies and active learning formats, including online education. The successful candidate will maintain a scholarly trajectory that contributes to the development and advancement of the nursing profession and nursing practice.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

General

  • Develop a DNP curriculum that aligns with regulatory standards as well as the mission and vision of the School of Nursing and Public Health and Moravian University.
  • Collaborate to complete all mandated accreditation and regulatory reporting required to launch the DNP. Complete and submit annual program reports to the department.
  • Provide inclusive educational experiences for doctoral students in the classroom and clinical environments.
  • Develop plans to recruit, support, and promote student enrollment of a body/corps of students with diverse backgrounds and participate in enrollment activities and admissions decision making. 

Administrative

  • Participates in the governance of the Moravian University nursing program through the Nursing Faculty Organization and its appropriate working subcommittees.
  • In collaboration with other nursing faculty and with the directors of graduate programs, as appropriate, Plans course offerings, organize and evaluate instruction.
  • Develops and implements a DNP program marketing plan in collaboration with the Chairperson and Director of the NP Program.
  • Remains abreast of current state and national policies, regulations, and trends that affects DNP students and informs nursing program administrators, faculty, and students of these current issues. Makes recommendations for programmatic changes as needed based upon these trends.
  • Implements the program philosophy, conceptual framework, and content/process instructional plan to ensure integrity of the DNP curriculum.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the School of Nursing and Public Health as well as the proper release of information.
  • Complies with University and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
  • Complies with University and departmental policies outlined in the faculty handbook.

 Budgetary

  • In collaboration with the chairperson and dean, create a business plan to develop and launch the DNP Program.
  • Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.

 Supervision/Mentoring

  • Serves as academic advisor for DNP students, establishing and updating program plans as needed.
  • Establishes positive faculty-student relationships with effective communications in formal and informal contacts.
  • Serves as a professional role model for students and staff.

 Teaching and Scholarship

  • Typical teaching load includes teaching 8 courses throughout the year, it is anticipated that this position will include 5 course releases for administrative responsibilities involved in the development and launch of the DNP program.
  • Evaluates student learning outcomes in various units of classroom and clinical agency instruction and evaluates student performance in accordance with established standards defined internally by the Nursing Faculty Organization, and externally by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty, and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
  • Utilizes pedagogies appropriate for a diverse student population with an emphasis on adult learning strategies and active learning formats.
  • Develops a plan for professional growth and maintains a scholarly trajectory. 

POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS:

Cuts and punctures: caution should be taken when assigned to risk areas. Assault and battery: security department is available for assistance. Radiation exposure and chemical and biological hazards: gloves and protective aprons available.

Doctoral degree required: DNP or doctorate in closely related field. 

Training and Experience: A minimum of two years of recent clinical experience. Demonstrated previous or current competence as a nursing instructor, with experience in student advisement, curricular development, and working with adult nursing students. Effective verbal and written communication required with other faculty, administration, hospital and clinical agency personnel, visitors, and external professional agencies.

 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Current registered nurse license in Pennsylvania.

2. Current national certification as a nurse practitioner and in the State of Pennsylvania.

3. Maintenance of competence as Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP).

 Preferred:

Experience working with graduate nursing students. Previous experience as a director. Computer literacy in office suite software packages.
