The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), Department of Preventive Medicine is seeking a Physician Epidemiologist for a full-time, tenure-track, faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. This position comes with up to 80% of effort protected for research, with the other 20% allocated to clinical practice responsibilities. A dual appointment in a clinical department would be feasible as appropriate.
The Department of Preventive Medicine, with over 20 full-time faculty members, is a highly collaborative and transdisciplinary department that includes expertise in preventive medicine, biostatistics, epidemiology, behavioral research, health services research, community outreach, and clinical studies. UTHSC is a major medical and research center which employees more than 4,600 people on its faculty, staff, and not-for-profit corporation faculty practice groups.
The successful candidate will have an existing clinical research program focused on key health outcomes. Relatedness to an ongoing research topic within UTHSC is ideal. Ongoing research topics in the Department of Preventive Medicine include diabetes, cardiovascular and respiratory disease, obesity/weight management, mobility, neurodevelopment, addiction, caregiver health, cancer, epigenetics, behavioral lifestyle change, and health across the lifespan. Opportunity for collaborations with many clinical practices across the region, with whom the Department maintains robust partnerships, is encouraged. These include Baptist Memorial Healthcare, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, Memphis VA Medical Center, Regional One Medical Center, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Additional research resources include: UTHSC and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital pediatric DNA biorepository (http://www.lebonheur.org/research-and- education/research/biorepository-and-integrative-genomics-initiative/), and the UTHSC Enterprise Data Warehouse which houses clinical and administrative data across this hospital network.
Although this is primarily a research position, the successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the academic mission of Department of Preventive Medicine through teaching, mentoring students, and departmental service.
