Job Description

The Registered Nurse I, under general supervision, provides direct patient care, patient evaluations, and treatment in accordance with Professional Nursing Standards for Health Services.

This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant funding.


  • Assumes responsibility for assigned area in clinic.
  • Provides direct patient care, patient evaluations, and treatment in accordance with Professional Nursing Standards.
  • Uses the health care team approach to provide triage of patients, physical assessments, and treatments, including the administration of medication and therapy as directed.
  • Maintains and monitors patient records, assesses health care needs, and provides patient education.
  • Provides preventative education programs to students, such as residence life programs and student organization programs.
  • Coordinates outreach and health education events.
  • Supervises assigned staff.
  • Maintains inventory and requisition of medical supplies, medications, and equipment.
  • Maintains and operates the autoclave for sterilization of instruments/supplies.
  • Coordinates specialty clinics in orthopedics, urology, dermatology, otolaryngology, surgery, gynecology, and psychiatry.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be licensed by the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Knowledge of standard nursing procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Ability to use and manage an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Licensed RN
  • CPR certified

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess COVID-19 Testing & Vaccination experience.
  • Experience working with college aged patients.
  • Experience with planning outreach and educational events.
