Instructional Designer (Remote)

The Instructional Designer, under supervision of the Associate Provost, Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships, will create online educational learning experiences, including classes, courses, workshops, continuing educational experiences, and webinars. The Instructional Designer will use strong interpersonal, written, and visual communication skills to combine text, images, video and/or audio to communicate and to educate. This is a remote position.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead instructional designer on an average 35-65 classes, courses, course revisions, continuing education experiences and/or webinars per year.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop and/or translate course/curriculum content into a quality educational experience delivered in an online modality.
  • Work in concert with subject matter experts to establish instructional learning outcomes and create content to achieve same.
  • Work with subject matter experts and identified others via email, phone, and in person to collect information needed to complete modules.
  • Quickly synthesize and write course content based on input from subject matter experts, written material, previous training courses, interviews, etc.
  • Outline the concept for a course or curriculum, defining (needs for) the course medium, content delivery, assessments, accompanying materials, and complementary learning approaches.
  • Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods to create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer of knowledge.
  • Create supporting material/media (quizzes, audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc).
  • Develop draft screen layouts, graphics and interactions appropriate to the content.
  • Proof course at multiple stages of development and make or document required changes.
  • Occasionally assist in production (graphics placement, animations, audio importing & editing)
  • Work with subject matter experts and Associate Provost to create assessment rubrics to measure student learning experiences, support academic rigor, and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation agencies.
  • Work with subject matter experts and Associate Provost to collect feedback and engage in continuous quality improvement.
  • Assist in the development of supplemental learning activities, including student and faculty orientations, tutorials, and resource repositories.
  • Provide group and one-to-one training support to faculty.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and report progress on designated software.
  • Complete various training, project management, and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Participate in team brainstorming and strategy meetings to help define goals and direction.
  • Perform other related tasks, duties and responsibilities as required, assigned or directed.


Skills

  • Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite and Learning Management Systems, including Canvas
  • Experience developing and conducting instructor-led training, either live or via webcast
  • Ability to look beyond standard solutions.

  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity and ability to communicate and interact effectively with people of all ages and diverse background
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a team player

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Three (3) years of experience in instructional design or relevant experience
  • Certifications, Licenses, etc.: None
