A partnership between Alliant's Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and the Alliant Educational Foundation (AEF) is offering 4 distinct grants to support individual initiatives focused on reducing racial and socioeconomic inequality in underserved and under-represented communities. A total of four 1-year grants of $10,000 will be awarded.

Recommended Special Project Areas of Focus:

• Educational equity, K-12 teacher diversity pipeline

• Health equity, community access to behavioral health support

• Criminal justice reform and antiracism

• Combating domestic extremism, hate and targeted violence

Application criteria:

Applicants must be external community leaders/individuals proposing innovative and creative projects/initiatives that are equity focused with the goal of reducing racial and socioeconomic inequality in underserved and underrepresented communities.

Application and Selection:

Interested individuals may apply by submitting a written statement providing the following:

1. Resume and Cover letter

2. Name of the Project along with at least a 500-word description of the proposed project, including expected outcomes, duration/term, location, etc.

3. A letter of recommendation

The Office of DEI will consider applications/proposals submitted no later than August 8, 2021, and will select/inform the 4 recipients no later than August 30, 2021.


The recipients will collaborate with Alliant's Office of DEI, provide quarterly progress reports and will share with the Alliant's Office of DEI:

1. Collaboration effort updates

2. Barriers and obstacles

3. Achievement of outcomes

4. Findings

5. Results of any applicable research

Recipients will also formally present results of their project to the Alliant International University community.


Awards will be issued in 2 equal installments upon receipt of quarterly progress reports with final installment issued upon presentation to the University as follows: $5,000 will be awarded in the Fall 2021 and $5,000 will be awarded in Spring 2022.

In rendering services under this Agreement, the ALLIANT COMMUNITY COLLABORATIVE EQUITY FELLOW [ACCEF] shall conform to high professional standards of work and business ethics. The ACCEF shall not use time, materials, or equipment of the University, except as identified in the assumptions outlined in the proposal. In no event shall the ACCEF take any action or accept any assistance or engage in any activity that would result in any university, governmental body, research institute or other person, entity, or organization acquiring any rights of any nature in the results of work performed by or for the University.

The ACCEF shall not use the service of any other person, entity, or organization in the performance of ACCEF's duties without the prior written consent of an officer of the University. Should the University consent to the use by ACCEF of the services of any other person, entity, or organization, no information regarding the services to be performed under this Agreement shall be disclosed to that person, entity, or organization until such person, entity, or organization has executed an agreement to protect the confidentiality of the University's Confidential Information and the University's absolute and complete ownership of all right, title, and interest in the work performed under this Agreement.

The ACCEF shall periodically provide the University with status updates of their observations and conclusions regarding the services. Upon the termination of this Agreement, Consultant shall, upon the request of the University, prepare a final report of ACCEF's activities.

The ACCEF is not an employee, partner, or coventurer of, or in any other service relationship with, the University. The manner in which the ACCEF's services are rendered shall be within the ACCEF's sole control and discretion. The ACCEF is not authorized to speak for, represent, or obligate the University in any manner without the prior express written authorization from an officer of the University.

The ACCEF shall be responsible for all taxes arising from compensation and other amounts paid under this Agreement. Neither federal, nor state, nor local income tax, nor payroll tax of any kind, shall be withheld or paid by the University on behalf of the ACCEF. The ACCEF understands that they are responsible to pay, according to law, ACCEF's taxes and ACCEF shall, when requested by the University, properly document to the University that any and all federal and state taxes have been paid.

The ACCEF will not be eligible for, and shall not participate in, any employee pension, health, welfare, or other fringe benefit plan of the University. No workers' compensation insurance shall be obtained by the University covering the ACCEF.
