The Associate Director for Equity and Strategic Initiatives, under the general supervision of the Director, provides a broad range of staff and project support to the University's international-multicultural initiatives. The Associate Director works with and across all academic and administrative areas in implementing the University's IMERIT (International and Multicultural Education, Research, Intervention, and Training) objectives and multicultural/international competencies.

The Associate Director must be able to work closely and effectively with all constituents of the university: faculty, staff, students, alumnae/i, trustees, donors, and others; must represent the University with the highest degree of professionalism and competences; must articulate recommendations and positions clearly and effectively.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership to the Systemwide IMERIT Committee, its standing committees, and ad hoc committees.
  • Under the general supervision of the Director, the Associate Director consults and collaborates with the University's senior leadership, administrative departments and academic programs around multi-cultural/international initiatives and issues, as well as develop and implement a plan to achieve these objectives and competencies for student and employees.
  • Organizing and developing an annual strategy for faculty and staff affinity groups and providing ongoing strategic support to all affinity groups.
  • Developing and implementing webinar programs that are diversity, equity, and inclusion focused ranging from a variety of topics of strategic interest to the university.
  • Responsible for leading the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Bias Response and Support System (BRSS).
  • Build and sustain partnerships with ethnic and inclusive organizations in the community as well as with student organizations, schools, and other stakeholders to support diversity and inclusion initiatives and strategies both within the university and larger community.
  • Works with Human Resources on developing and monitoring a diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives for the workforce, and in hiring.
  • Assist with the preparation of grant proposals and other fundraising efforts to support IMERIT initiatives.
  • Oversees IMERIT's web and portal presence.
  • Performs other related tasks, duties, and responsibilities as required, assigned, or directed.


  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student, faculty and community is essential
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented organization
  • Individual must possess superior interpersonal oral and written communication skills
  • Flexibility, independence, tolerance for organizational complexity and ambiguity, and enthusiasm for the IMERIT agenda and for the mission of the University.
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity and ability to communicate and interact effectively with people of all ages and diverse background.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a team player.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and tact in all interpersonal contacts, and to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks according to required deadlines and maintain composure under high stress conditions.

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education and relevant higher education/diversity experience.
  • Experience: Two (2) years' work experience in higher education, preferably, in the area of diversity training, management, or consultation.
  • Certifications, Licenses, etc.: None
