The Department of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Sciences in in the Waters College of Health Professions invites applications and nominations for the position of Visiting Instructor of Medical Laboratory Science Lecturer for the 2021-2022 academic year. Applications will remain open until the position is filled. The home campus for this position will be the Armstrong campus.

Georgia Southern University was founded in 1906 as a school for teaching modern agricultural production techniques and homemaking skills to rural school children. Its Savannah campus was established in 1935 as Armstrong Junior College for local youth who could not afford to attend college away from home. The Liberty Center in Hinesville was established in 1998 to serve the military and their families at nearby Fort Stewart, the largest military base east of the Mississippi. All three locations came together in 2018 when Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University consolidated. Within this setting, the Department of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Sciences houses 18 full-time faculty and staff serving nine programs within the Radiologic Sciences, Respiratory Therapy, and Medical Laboratory Science degrees. The Department of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Sciences, as part of the Waters College of Health Professions at Georgia Southern University-Armstrong Campus, exists to educate students and to provide our culturally diverse communities with competent, team-oriented, and compassionate healthcare professionals. The Medical Laboratory Science program uses a scientific approach to problem-solving and critical thinking to educate students able to contribute to the growth and development of the respiratory therapy field. This position will enhance the creative integration of technology within current and future course offerings.

Reporting to the Department Chair, the Visiting Instructor requires teaching online, in a classroom, and a laboratory setting, service, and professional development responsibilities. The position is 10-months, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. All visiting instructor positions are non-tenure track appointments. There is the possibility for reappointment to a second year based on funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Required Qualifications:
Earned master's degree in medical laboratory science/medical technology, health sciences, public health, education or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in medical laboratory science, health sciences, public health education, or a related field, by August 1, 2021
Medical laboratory science /Medical Technology degree from an institution accredited by NAACLS (National Accrediting Association for Clinical Laboratory Sciences).
Possess current MLS (ASCP) certification as a generalist.
A minimum of 3 years clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist.
A minimum of two (2) years' experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a NAACLS accredited program or as a clinical instructor/ preceptor for students of such programs.
Experience in interprofessional activities.
Experience with problem/case-based learning.
Experience writing/updating procedures/policies based on peer-reviewed best practice evidence.
Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.

Preferred Qualifications:
Earned doctoral degree in health sciences, public health, education, or a closely related field.
More than of three years' experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a Medical Laboratory Science program or as a clinical instructor/ preceptor for students of such programs.
A minimum of (3) years' clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist within the past 5 years.
Experience in course development.
2+ years' experience teaching online with online teaching certification (Quality Matters or closely related).
Active in national or state association
