Salary:    8 A/B, £46,718 - £54,131 per annum 
Hours:     37 per week 
Tenure:                Fixed term for 3 years

The opportunity 
Research and Innovation Services (RIS) is based at Cardiff Metropolitan University's Llandaff Campus, from where the team supports research and innovation interactions with business and the wider community. At an operational level, we are the gateway through which external organisations can access the support and knowledge base of the University. We work with colleagues across Cardiff Met's five academic schools and all units on a broad range of research and knowledge transfer activities maximising the commercial and social value of the University's research. We work with businesses through collaboration, consultancy, offering the opportunity for businesses to work with our students and the use of our resources and facilities. RIS is also home to the Global Academies which is a strategic initiative of the University to support and encourage interdisciplinary, impactful and international research, innovation and postgraduate education that addresses global challenges identified by the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Wellbeing of Future Generations Act (Wales) 2015. Our three Global Academies are Health and Human Performance; Food Science, Safety and Security; and Human Centred Design.

This is a post for a senior researcher, in a role that contributes to the ambitions of the University's Strategic Plan. Centrally located within the University's Research and Innovation Services, the post will support the the Head of Global Academy - Health and Human Performance in stimulating and delivering interdisciplinary research activity across the five academic Schools at Cardiff Met's, bringing experience in relevant research grant capture, producing academic outputs and supporting the development of other researchers. The role will be a combination of 'active researcher' and 'research leader', supporting research project development across the university. 

What you'll do - key duties 

  • Leading the development of human centred design focussed interdisciplinary research proposals
  • Contributing to the development of interdisciplinary research proposals that have a health and human performance element
  • Working closely with the Global Academies team to support research that addresses the UN's Sustainable Development Goals
  • Leading the development of research teams across Cardiff Met through collaboration with senior researchers and early career researchers, to develop new teams to identify and capitalise upon new development opportunities
  • Managing funding application development and assuming strategic oversight of key research projects including project management of select research projects
  • Leading and supporting the production of relevant research outputs

Activities will include leading , facilitating and supporting the development of research and enterprise funding applications applicable to the Health and Human Performance Global Academy to be submitted to a variety of bodies, e.g. the European Commission, UKRI, public, private and third sector.  

The role holder will also formalise and implement processes that will lead to sustainable collaborative working, higher quality funding applications and associated growth of interdisciplinary research at Cardiff Met. This activity will directly contribute to our institutional Measures of Success. 

What you'll bring - essential experience & strengths

  • Proven experience in successful research proposal development for academic research gained in an HEI environment, and with a diverse range of partners (research funding bodies, third sector, public and private sectors) 
  • Proven experience of developing and maintaining multi-partner/multi-national project relationships/networks
  • Proven experience of developing successful multi-partner/multi-national project proposals
  • Experience of a significant contribution to the delivery of an academic research programme
  • Experience of supervising research teams
  • Significant post-graduate level experience
  • Proven experience in publishing academic work 

What you'll have - essential qualifications 

  • Doctoral level qualification in design or a related discipline; or other doctoral qualification with experience in projects related to health and human performance
