Job Description

Coppin State University, a fully accredited institution and a member of the University System of Maryland is accepting applications for a full-time Tenure-Track Associate Professor, for the Department of Teaching and Learning within the College of Arts & Sciences and Education. Founded in 1900, Coppin is an urban residential Historically Black College and University (HBCU), serving nearly 3,000 students enrolled in day, evening, weekend, and online courses. The undergraduate students focus of study may be in Elementary, Early Childhood, and Special Education. Graduate level programs support leadership development in education and prepare students for initial teacher certification through Master of Arts in Teaching and a M. Ed. in Special Education. The finalist must demonstrate strong leadership skills and have knowledge of teacher certification and accreditation processes with experience in providing support to students and strong interaction with colleagues in support of the academic unit. The top candidate must possess the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to serve in a leadership role and be willing to be appointed to a leadership role.


  • To provide instruction and academic support to students through the delivery of instruction up to 12 credits per semester.
  • To support the retention, progression, and graduation of student advisees.
  • Provide service on departmental, college, and university-wide committees.Research experience with the goal of further developing an active research and publication agenda.

Required Qualifications


  • Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Human Development, Elementary Education and Special Education or a closely related field.


  • Experience in teaching courses in Elementary, Early Childhood, or Special Education with some research-related background.
  • An established record of teaching and leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge of CAEP accreditation, licensure expectations, and a commitment to cultural diversity and social justice.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
