Position Summary

Utilizing a success coaching model based on best practices, provide an array of traditional student support services. Provide leadership and direct a multifaceted department supporting the development of Multiculturalism, Diversity, and Equity initiatives towards the entire MCC Community. Responsible for education, awareness and support to a growing number of under-represented student populations at MCC. Coach, mentor and train student leaders, and ultimately create an atmosphere of respect and success for all students.

Reports to Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs Essential Functions and Responsibilities

· Implement department mission, goals, objective, and effective multicultural, equity and diversity programming departmental efforts
· Review and evaluate programs, services, and activities related to retention and success of underrepresented student populations and make recommendations for college initiatives and their justification, development and/or modification
· Coordinate and develop retention activities related to underrepresented students to increase student involvement and retention
· Develop and maintain a process for monitoring the retention and success of underrepresented student populations to include evaluating and monitoring programs and policies
· Develop appropriate education plans and advise students on selection of courses, primarily for underrepresented students
· Assist with the facilitation of New Student Orientation by presenting college information and advising students on selection of courses
· Serve as a resource to student clubs or organizations that serve underrepresented students
· Empower students to effectively communicate with faculty and student services and become better connected to resources and support services such as financial aid, career services, and disability services
· Infuse an understanding and commitment to diversity and incorporate practices in all student led initiatives
· Promote a highly collaborative working environment between academic departments and administrative departments (e.g. Admissions, Records and Registration, First Year Experience, Recruitment, etc.)
· Coordinate the development, implementation, and evaluation of activities, programs, and services that fulfill the department mission. These events may include but are not limited to the Annual Latino Empowerment Conference, Latino Heritage Month, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, and Black History Month
· Serve as a liaison with external agencies
· Train and supervise student employees to assist the Student Success Center
· Coordinate and present proactive educational information sessions to students and the MCC community
· Participate in department, division and campus committees
· Consult and work in close partnership with faculty, counselors, and other staff members to assist underrepresented student populations
· Maintain student records and prepare annual reports related to retention and success of underrepresented student populations, such as annual Underrepresented Groups report
· Develop relationships with the campus and local community to enhance student success and work collaboratively with other (e.g. colleagues, stakeholder, vendors) to accomplish functions and implement initiatives
· Assist with managing the departmental budget and related functions
· Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

Required Education Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution Other Required Qualifications

· Two years' experience coordinating or working directly in an academic support program at the college level
· Bilingual language skills (English - Spanish)

Desired Qualifications

· Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution
· Community college experience

· Ability to learn technological applications
· Ability to establish rapport with Hispanic/Latino and other underrepresented student populations
· Commitment to effectively serving underrepresented student populations
· Self-motivated, self-directed, and the ability to work independently
· Excellent organization and coordination abilities
· Ability and willingness to remain up-to-date on social and higher education issues affecting students, colleges, communities, and underrepresented groups
