Rivier University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice. The Division of Nursing and Health Professions at Rivier University is seeking a nurse practitioner with an MSN and earned doctorate degree to teach in our DNP Online Program, with a required on-campus presence. Reporting to the Dean of Nursing and Health Professions, the Assistant Professor of Nursing is responsible for providing instruction and support to doctor of nurse practice students within the Division of Nursing and Health Professions at Rivier University.

This program has two tracks:
  • Professional Practice Track for nurses who have successfully passed a national certification exam (FNP, PMH, etc.), and a
  • Systems Leadership Track for non-advanced practice nurses (such as nurse educators or nurse leaders).  Both tracks prepare the doctoral student to be an expert clinician, who contributes to improving population health, influences health policy, evaluates research outcomes, and serves as an industry leader prepared to work as a high-functioning member of an interdisciplinary team.
Responsibilities:

The assigned full-time faculty member will teach a workload of 21 to 24 credits, in addition to working closely with the doctoral students, to provide:
  • Mentorship and guidance when developing, implementing, and evaluating their DNP Scholarly project. This includes mentorship in the critical review of evidence, research design and methodology, data collection and analysis, as well as evaluation.
  • Other duties consistent with the University Faculty Handbook include but are not limited to serving on divisional and university wide committees; data collection, assessment and evaluation related to program outcomes, and alignment with professional competencies, accreditation standards, and the AACN DNP Essentials.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues both within the department, throughout the University community and within the clinical settings outside of the University.
  • Candidate must engage in on campus presence, hold on campus office hours and participate in selected departmental and University wide committees.
Supervision Received:

Direction and general supervision are received from the Dean of Nursing and Health Professions.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • An earned Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree and doctoral degree are required. (A research focused doctorate PhD is preferred).
  • National certification as a Nurse Practitioner (FNP, Psychiatric Mental Health NP, etc.).
  • Current clinical experience across the lifespan, and a demonstrated history of implementation of quality improvement or patient safety initiatives, to improve population health.
  • Prior teaching experience at the graduate or doctoral level, including online teaching and prior experience with Learning Management Systems or Video Conferencing.
  • Prior experience or knowledge of quantitative assessment software (such as SPSS), and qualitative software (such as NVivo), use to evaluate data outcomes.
  • A demonstrated history of dedication to advanced practice nursing, including works of professional scholarship or contribution to peer-reviewed publications.
  • A team player who has flexibility in work hours to best accommodate our student needs, including videoconferencing frequently in the evenings, and occasionally on the weekend.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to engage in critical thinking and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage confidential information.
  • Ability to collaborate with other faculty and staff and maintain collegial relations.
  • Self-starter, ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
  • Computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word-processing and Canvas is preferred.
This position classification has been defined as exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
