Job Description


The School of Business invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Management beginning August 2021. Black Hills State University is a teaching focused university, with faculty positions having defined responsibilities in teaching, scholarship/research, and service (University, professional, and community).

The School of Business offers undergraduate business programs in Business Administration with specializations in accounting, economics/finance, entrepreneurial studies, human resource management, management, marketing, as well as Professional Accountancy and an MBA. The BHSU School of Business earned AACSB accreditation of its Business Administration, Professional Accountancy, and MBA programs in May 2014, and was reaffirmed in 2019.

  • Teach undergraduate courses (face-to-face, online, and/or at an extension location) in one or more of the following areas: Management, Strategic Management, Organizational Behavior, Entrepreneurship, Small Business Management, etc., at the BS and MBA level. (Note: The teaching load is four courses/semester with summer teaching possibilities.)
  • Engage in appropriate research/scholarly activities
  • Participate in student advising
  • Participate in service activities
  • PhD, DBA, DM or equivalent in one of the following fields: management, strategic management, organizational behavior, entrepreneurship, or related area required.
  • * ABD will be considered - degree completion must occur no later than July 1, 2022. The 2021/2022 contract will be a term contract at the Instructor level, $4000 lower than the terminal degree compensation. The 2022/23 contract will include $4,000 salary increase and assistant professor rank reflecting degree completion. Upon request, one year of prior service may be applied toward promotion and tenure, with BHSU and BOR approval.
  • Willingness to teach online and at the Rapid City Center.
  • Successful teaching, potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals, and strong collegial and collaborative skills are required.
  • Successful teaching experience in a business school is strongly preferred.
  • Prior community involvement/engagement in business practice is a plus.
