Exercise Science Assistant Professor

The Department of Applied Health Sciences at Baker University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor teaching in the Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science program within the College of Arts and Sciences, beginning August 2021. The Exercise Science program is accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences (CoAES). This is a position in a well-established and continuously growing program of excellence and includes potential for growth into program and department leadership roles.

The primary responsibility for this position includes teaching undergraduate courses with preference given to candidates with the ability and experience to teach a range of courses in the exercise science major, as well as contributing to the general education program. Strong candidates will maintain primary expertise in exercise science and/or subspecialties in human anatomy, exercise programming, kinesiology, or exercise physiology. Additional responsibilities include continued scholarly development (especially involving undergraduates), student advising, and usual service to the department, university, and community. Applicants must be dedicated to teaching in a small (ca. 850-student) college setting with a 4/4 teaching load, and be committed to student-centered learning.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Terminal degree (PhD, DSc, or EdD) in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology or a related field and have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship. Candidates with ABD will be considered, provided the dissertation is completed within one year of employment.
  • Experience in and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching at the collegiate level or a documented record of at least five years of professional involvement in the discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence and commitment to undergraduate teaching and advising.
  • ACSM-EP or NSCA-CSCS certification.
  • The ability to work collaboratively across disciplines (e.g., research, curricular development, service).
  • Demonstrate the ability to mentor undergraduate research projects.
