Job Description Summary

The College of Business at Eastern Oregon University (EOU) invites applications for a one-year full-time, fixed-term visiting assistant professor position starting September 2021.

This position will support our new Agriculture Entrepreneurship degree within the College of Business targeted to accept students in Fall term 2022. The ideal candidate will bring agriculture education, program marketing and recruitment, agricultural industry, community college, and high school networking experience.

The primary responsibilities will be marketing the new program, recruiting high school, community college, and other student populations to meet Fall 2022 enrollment targets; networking throughout the state and region with agriculture foundations, associations, agencies, agribusinesses, and independent agriculture operations; and instructing up to one class per term as assigned or per area(s) of expertise.

Responsibilities

This full-time, fixed-term 9-month visiting assistant professor contract includes up to 12 credits of effective online teaching and learning assessment, Agriculture Entrepreneurship degree marketing and recruiting, and working with the regional agriculture industry and employers, school districts, community colleges, and community members to drive Fall 2022 enrollment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in agriculture or agriculture-related field with a major, concentration, specialization, focus area, emphasis, option, track, field, or stream, etc. in the area(s) of assigned teaching responsibilities; OR
  • Master's degree in an agriculture-related major but with a sufficient combination of graduate agriculture course work and significant professional agriculture experience in the area(s) of assigned teaching responsibilities.
  • One year of effective in-person and/or online teaching collegiate level teaching in agriculture or related field.
  • Knowledge of U.S. agricultural production systems and those in the western U.S.
  • Commitment to the personal and professional growth of students, including communication competence, written and oral skills, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar for employment.
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. Eastern Oregon University will not sponsor applicants for employment visas.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hold a Ph.D. degree in agriculture or related field with a major, concentration, specialization, focus area, emphasis, option, track, field, or stream, etc. in the area(s) of assigned teaching responsibilities; OR
  • Hold ABD status in an agriculture-related major but with a sufficient combination of graduate agriculture course work and significant professional agriculture experience in the area(s) of assigned teaching responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching a broad range of agriculture and related courses at the lower and upper-division level in both face-to-face and online modalities.
  • Experience working with the Oregon and regional agriculture industry and agriculture community.
  • Postdoctoral work in agriculture.
  • Experience developing and promoting academic programs to communities, school districts, and community colleges.
  • Experience directing experiential learning activities and internships.
  • Experience with learning assessment.
  • Online teaching professional development, credentials, and/or certification (e.g., Quality Matters).
