This temporary summer staff member is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the day camps. Each camp consists of up to 16 campers, ages 9 to 17, depending on program. Responsibilities include oversight of the staff, checkin and checkout of all campers for each day, maintaining contact with parents, resolving any conflicts between campers, giving short educational presentations to the campers, securing of the facility (room), resolving equipment problems, and in general providing the leadership for the camp. Responsible for orchestrating the move of the camp between different locations with the help of the camp counselors and/or the Maine Robotics central staff. Recruiting and facilitating visiting presenters or local (walking) field trips as the location allows.
Camps are being run in Portland, Gorham, Augusta, Bangor, and Camden.
Training provided at the end of June at USM campus.
Standard First Aid/CPR training required (provided or reimbursed if you don't have it/isn't current).
Supervises: Camp Counselor's and up to 16 campers.
Reports to: Director of STEM Outreach
Duration: 1-5 weeks, depending on location and need.
Compensation: Camp Leaders are paid $830/week.
About us: USM's STEM Outreach Program now runs the Maine Robotics programs, the Southworth Planetarium, and coordinates the numerous K-12 STEM outreach programs that reside at the University of Southern Maine.
