Job Description

The faculty member performs teaching duties and professional service for the College. Duties include providing instruction as assigned; conducting and assessing instruction; developing and/or modifying curriculum; assisting students through academic advising; establishing, posting, and maintaining office hours; providing leadership for the development, growth, and support of the College and the assigned area; and undertaking professional community service.

 Other duties include supporting the mission, vision and values of the College and policies of the Board of Trustees; serving on various College committees, task forces and other groups; and participating in various official College ceremonies and meetings.

 This a full-time, 10-month, tenure-track position which starts August 2021.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

A master’s degree in Physics or a closely-related field, with 18 graduate credits in Physics, and one year of full-time, college-level teaching or the equivalent adjunct teaching, preferably in a community college setting, are required.

Other requirements include:

  • Well-articulated understanding of the role of community colleges
  • Experience teaching physics courses with labs
  • Ability to teach physics (both calculus-based and algebra-based) and physical science courses to majors and non-majors
  • Ability to implement student-centered, evidence-based pedagogies, including the use of technology to facilitate learning
  • Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes

A PhD; the ability to teach calculus-based physics using MATLAB; understanding of and experience with inclusive pedagogy; and the ability to teach Astronomy utilizing the HCC Observatory are preferred.
