Job Description:

Southern Utah University (SUU) invites applications for a one-year, full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology position in the department of History, Sociology, and Anthropology to begin August 16, 2021. We seek a Cultural/Medical Anthropologist as a sabbatical replacement. Geographical focus is open.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The annual teaching assignment will be a 4/4 course load. Teaching responsibilities will include:

  • introductory courses in Cultural Anthropology and Medical Anthropology
  • upper division elective courses in the successful candidate's area of specialty
  • An ability to also teach Ecological Anthropology is desirable, but not required

Education and Experience Requirements:

  1. PhD in Anthropology, emphasis Cultural/Medical Anthropology (ABD candidates considered)
  2. Prior experience teaching undergraduate anthropology courses
  3. Demonstrated evidence of effective teaching
  4. Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds
  5. Demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups reach their maximum potential
