Position Summary

Maintain a diverse and growing MCC Permanent Art Collection and work collaboratively with the Art Department and the Friends of MCC Foundation to meet the needs of the College community

Reports to Dean of Arts and Humanities
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

· Maintain and develop a diverse and growing MCC Permanent Art Collection, and oversee all aspects of the Liebman donation, the Portrait in Print Collection, including purchases, donations, and installations; conduct condition assessments, determine appropriate conservation standards and practice; create and maintain related inventory/database and collection records
· Plan and manage Art Gallery budget and Permanent Art Collection budget
· Organize and install rotating exhibits in College Galleries
· Maintain galleries and exhibit equipment
· Establish permanent exhibitions in College Library and other non-gallery areas of the College
· Determine appropriate locations and implement design plan for installation/reinstallation of artwork
· Create promotional educational materials (such as catalogs) in support of gallery programs in conjunction with the Office of Marketing and Public Relations
· Secure copyright permissions for image use, and solicit funding for catalog production
· Coordinate treatment plan(s) with professional conservators, authorize proposals, funding and transportation of artwork
· Function as liaison with the Friends of MCC Foundation, and manage professional appraisal of Portrait in Print Collection, in conjunction with MOU; collaborate with donors on Art Collection donations and related special projects
· Coordinate activities pertaining to the Skyway Art Conference, and direct MCC Skyway Committee during Host School rotation planning
· Hire, train, and supervise work-study student workers for the Art Galleries with the assistance of Art Department faculty members
· Direct the development and implementation of art programs for College-sponsored fundraising events, including procuring/organizing art donations, volunteers, and demonstrations, in conjunction with Administration and/or Friends of MCC Foundation
· Lead art tours and presentations for employees, community groups, and other visitors to campus; work with community partners
· Assist Art Department faculty in maintaining art studios, including, but not limited to, light repairs and maintenance, cleaning of equipment and tools, and mixing photo chemicals and ceramic glazes
· Assist in preparing studios for classes, organizing and inventorying supplies, including basement storage, and coordinating student locker rentals

Required Education Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution
Other Required Qualifications

· Two years relevant career experience, preferably in a college gallery setting or museum
· Record of success in the design, planning, coordination, and execution of college gallery exhibit operations

Desired Qualifications

· Master of Arts in Museum Studies from a regionally accredited institution
· Teaching experience in college-level studio or art history courses
· Experience in the conservation field, especially with works on paper

Skills and Specifications

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and internet
· Ability to learn technological applications
· Ability to grow with technology and philosophical directions implemented by the College
· Knowledge of installation practices for all visual media (2D, 3D, video), security measures, gallery maintenance practice, computer skills, publicity, and exhibit documentation practice
· Excellent interpersonal, writing, and research skills
· Willingness and ability to provide students and the public with information regarding the art collections, gallery exhibits, and curatorial practice
· Organization skills
· Ability to work in a dynamic environment that requires being sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs
· Ability to safely lift 50 pounds unassisted
· Ability to see and perceive color, depth and texture
