Job Description Summary

The Department of Sociology at Barnard College invites applications for a three-year teaching position in Sociology at the rank of Term Assistant Professor beginning in July 2021. This opportunity is available to those with a Ph.D. in Sociology.

The position includes a five-course, on-campus teaching assignment, employment benefits, faculty development funding, presentation opportunities and mentoring. A commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts environment and evidence of effective and inclusive teaching are essential.

While the area of specialization is open, we are particularly interested in the ability to teach undergraduate courses that complement existing offerings in our department. These might include classes in Latina/o sociology, environmental sociology, global/transnational sociology, political sociology, crime and deviance, or other areas. Candidates must be able to teach one of our foundations courses for the major: either Methods for Social Research or Social Theory.
