Job Description

Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in Communications

The Department of Humanities at D’Youville College invites applicants for a one-year position, with the possibility of renewal, as a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in Communications/Communication Studies. The department is currently developing an innovative and dynamic new major in Communications, with two concentrations: Health Communication and Communication Arts. Applicants must have a specialization in Health Communications, but should also be able to teach core subject areas in the field of Communications or Communication Studies.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach 4 courses per semester, consisting of 3 courses in Communications and 1 section of the First-Year Humanities Seminar per semester
  • Hold regular office hours
  • Advise and mentor students

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Communications, Communication Studies, or related field within Communications, with documented expertise in Health Communications
  • College-level teaching experience in introductory and upper-level courses in Communications and/or Communication Studies
  • Experience teaching Health Communications, Theories and Methods in Communication Studies, and Mass Communication
  • Experience teaching introductory writing and critical thinking from a Humanities perspective
  • Fluency in culturally responsive pedagogies (for example, antiracist pedagogy, critical pedagogy, feminist pedagogy, and/or queer pedagogy)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching Risk and Crisis Communication, Public Relations Writing, Media Activism, and additional Health Communications curriculum
  • Interest in and/or experience teaching courses addressing the intersections of Communication Studies (including Health Communications) and social justice; political discourse; free speech; rhetoric and dissent; public rhetoric; social media; and/or online cultures and communications
  • Willingness to contribute to the life and culture of the department
