Job Description

Business Communication Lecturer Pool Search

Isenberg School of Management

University of Massachusetts at Amherst

The Business Communication Program in the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is establishing a pool of non-tenure track part-time faculty to teach Management Communication, our core offering that satisfies the University's junior year writing requirement. Management Communication is a small, workshop-based, and writing-intensive course that emphasizes real-world writing and speaking assignments that prepare students for today's dynamic business environments.

Openings may be available to teach on-campus courses as well as those offered through the University Without Walls (UWW). These latter courses may be taught during the academic year or over the winter or summer terms and are delivered fully online, allowing faculty to teach from anywhere with a dependable Internet connection. Successful candidates will have expertise or evident potential in providing quality teaching at the undergraduate level. A demonstrated ability to teach in both face-to-face and distance education formats is highly desirable.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

A master’s degree in English, rhetoric, composition, technical writing, business communication, or related field is required, with preference given to those who hold a Ph.D. in one of the fields. Evidence of experience and excellence in teaching is essential. Preference will also be given to candidates who have taught online and those with business experience.

Please note that a teaching assignment is not guaranteed and that assignments may not be offered in the order in which candidates enter the pool as openings for different classes occur at different times. While our in-person, online, and part-time degree programs operate year round, the primary need is during the fall and spring semesters. Successful applicants from this pool will be assigned based on programmatic needs starting in the Fall 2021 term.
