The Clinical Experience Coordinator Role

The Clinical Experience Coordinator (CEC) is a faculty position that facilitates the placement of nursing students from the Master of Science in Nursing and the Family Nurse Practitioner Graduate Certificate programs into clinical rotation sites throughout California. The CEC will identify, establish, and maintain strong relationships with area health providers and their clinical facilities for the purpose of further development and support of clinical partnerships.

The CEC reports directly to the Director of Nursing and is responsible for facilitating operational aspects of the School of Nursing clinical and preceptor facilities/contracts, student background and health checks, clinical requirements, tracking clinical hours. Collaborates with the School of Nursing Director and program chairs to provide oversight and tracking of student placements, clinical preceptor requirements, and coordinating meetings for clinical placements.


  • Function within the organizing framework of the School of Nursing in didactic and clinical settings.
  • Function as a liaison and arrange all student clinical learning experiences with appropriate clinical agencies.
  • Demonstrates high level of experience in public relations skills including ability to reach out to appropriate sources to get the resources or find information needed to be successful.
  • Facilitate all clinical placements with qualified preceptors to meet the requirements by CCNE for the FNP role (FNP program)
  • Facilitate and monitor compliance with clinical requirements of TUC SON and agencies.
  • Obtain current CVs for preceptors (every 3 years).
  • Facilitate currency of current and future affiliation agreements with all clinical agencies utilized for clinical experiences.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation of effectiveness of clinical agency placements for meeting clinical experience objectives and competencies through site visits.
  • Conduct preceptor orientation and ongoing evaluation of preceptor effectiveness for meeting clinical competencies per program requirements.
  • Monitor student progression through the online clinical tracking system (Typhon).
  • Monitor student background checks and health clearances through the online tracking system.
  • Participate in School and University committee meetings and fulfill assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintain active membership in professional organizations.
  • Assist in the development of learning objectives, course syllabi, learning assignments and evaluation strategies for clinical experience courses.
  • Participate in governance and curriculum meetings within the SON meetings throughout the year.
  • Participate in faculty development opportunities.
  • Manage clinical experience placement platform Ex. CastleBranch; My Clinical Exchange (mCE).

The Faculty Role

Faculty in the TUC School of Nursing (SON) are charged with planning, implementing and evaluating nursing curricula and defining and measuring student learning outcomes. Faculty engage in a collaborative process as they develop policies and procedures for the SON; they maintain currency in their professional field and model excellence in instruction and assessment of learning. As a member of the larger campus, faculty are engaged in service at the School, College and University level. They are engaged members of their professional and geographic community and participate in scholarly activities relevant to their faculty responsibilities and professional discipline.

  • Assume responsibility for assigned teaching load, including didactic coursework and clinical components.

Preferred and Required Qualifications


  • Master’s Degree or higher preferred. Master of Science in Nursing or higher degree from a CNEA (NLN) or CCNE accredited nursing program.
  • If a Registered Nurse, must hold an active and unencumbered licensed in the State of California by date of
  • FNP background strongly preferred, with an active and unencumbered FNP license.
  • If an FNP, minimum of three years cumulative clinical experience as an FNP.
  • At least one year of recent clinical or teaching experience in academic nursing preferred.
  • Teaching experience at the graduate level
  • Evidence of continuing education in content and/or clinically appropriate to the area of
