TEACHING AT PINEHURST SCHOOL
Pinehurst School District #94 lies in the mountains, 21 miles east of Ashland, Oregon along Highway 66. We provide the only public school in the 114,000-acre Cascade Siskiyou National Monument. One of the smallest districts in the state, Pinehurst is responsible for the education of our children kindergarten through 12th grade. The Pinehurst campus meets the needs of kindergarten through 6th graders. The district pays tuition and transportation for resident 7th-12th grade students to attend Ashland School District.
The Pinehurst Elementary School projects an enrollment of approximately 16 kindergarten through 6th grade students in 2021 -22, who will be taught by a team of two full-time teachers and one or more instructional assistants. The teacher position that is open for the 2021-22 school year is for grades kindergarten through 3rd grade. Ideally the teacher we hire will be experienced with teaching in a multi-aged classroom and will adapt to a system which—while acknowledging grade distinctions—provides differentiated instruction specific to the individual pupil’s academic achievements. The extra preparation for this type of instruction is offset, somewhat, by the small number of students and team-teaching approach. Pinehurst School works closely with the Southern Oregon Education Service District to augment essential special education and professional development needs. Pinehurst Elementary School is located in the Lincoln-Pinehurst neighborhood of the Greensprings, about a thirty-minute drive east of Interstate 5. Our highway—though steep and curvy—is well maintained by the Oregon Department of Transportation all year long. We welcome and encourage all candidates for this position to arrange with our administrator, Holly Amann, an appointment to drive up and tour our campus.
