Job Summary:

The Multi-Interprofessional Center for Health Informatics and the Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) seek applicants for an Assistant Professor tenure-track position to teach and conduct research in Health Informatics. We seek faculty members with outstanding qualifications who share the University's core values of high standards of excellence in innovative and collaborative research, combined with fostering an open and inclusive environment that promotes participation of underrepresented groups in research.

This position is part of the newly established Multi-Interprofessional Center for Health Informatics, whose goals are to conduct research and develop top-quality informatics programs to serve the entire University and the community. The academic appointment will be in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

Candidates should show evidence of exceptional research promise and are expected to contribute to building a nationally and internationally recognized research group, develop a research program, and provide leadership in the formation of a new informatics program, including developing and teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Ideal candidates will have a broad understanding and interest in interdisciplinary studies and demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equity in education through their research, teaching, and service.

Essential Duties:

The individual will be an integral part of the Multi-Interprofessional Center for Health Informatics and will increase the visibility of the Center and profession through research, teaching, national relationship building, collaboration, and network; Teach and develop courses related to healthcare data analytics, consumer health informatics, health information management, health information technology, and research; Contribute to building a nationally and internationally recognized research group; Establish an independent research program evidenced by publications and external research funding; Develop and maintain academic courses based on industry needs and accreditation requirements; Participate in marketing efforts to support the visibility and reputation of the Center. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff on courses, research, and special projects. This individual will report to the Executive Director and Co-Director of the Multi-Interprofessional Center for Health Informatics and for the faculty role to the Chair of the Computer Science and Engineering. The individual will contribute to and participate in fostering a culture of inclusion in support of college diversity goals.

Required Qualifications:

  • Either a PhD in Health Informatics or a PhD in Computer Science or related field and experience in health informatics or health information management: OR currently enrolled in one such doctoral program with a completion date within six months of hire
  • Evidence of cultural competence and demonstrated success working with diverse populations is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An active member of national and state health informatics or Health Informatics and Information Management associations and/or active in eHealth initiatives.
  • A strong background working with inferential statistics, machine learning, data analytics, emerging technologies (AI, VR, etc.).
  • Experience in research design and research methods with a demonstrated ability to publish research findings
  • Experience working within an academic computer science stetting and comfortable using health information technologies.
