Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK), a Member of The Texas A&M University System, invites applications for a highly energetic tenure-track Assistant Professor in Animal Science. This position is a nine-month appointment, with 25% research and 75% teaching (nine credit hours each in the spring and fall semesters) responsibilities. The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally recognized, externally funded, multidisciplinary research program in livestock genetics/breeding, nutrition, physiology, behavior, and/or health and well-being. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain close-working relationships with food-animal industry stakeholders, mentor graduate students, and teach an undergraduate course in animal breeding and genetics, along with additional undergraduate and graduate courses related to their area of expertise in the Department of Animal Science and Veterinary Technology (ASVT). A competitive negotiable salary and benefit package will be offered that will be commensurate with the candidate's level of expertise. Available for employment by the Fall 2021 semester is expected.Minimal Qualifications
Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Animal Science, Dairy Science, Poultry Science, or a closely related field from an accredited university. Evidence of successful teaching and basic and(or) applied research experience in livestock breeding and genetics, nutrition, physiology, behavior, animal well-being, production management, animal health, or related research areas are preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, and candidates should have evidence of scholarly achievement in teaching and research. The Department of ASVT at Texas A&M University-Kingsville is an integral part of the Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. In addition to awarding Bachelor of Science degrees in Animal Science, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, and Animal-Wildlife Veterinary Technology and a Master of Science degree in Animal Science, the ASVT Department is home to the only four-year accredited Veterinary Technology program in Texas and the renowned King Ranch Institute for Ranch Management. The Department of ASVT is the largest academic department on the picturesque campus of Texas A&M University-Kingsville, with 14 faculty, 15 graduate and approximately 450 undergraduate students. The 650-acre Texas A&M University-Kingsville Farm houses beef cows, meat goats, hair-sheep, and a swine operation where students receive hands-on training in basic food animal production management and techniques. The Department of ASVT values innovative teaching, experiential learning, global and historical perspectives, and encourages collaborative endeavors.
